Helmsley park lane

The rooms were very old and out of date. For the price we expected more up to date. The bathroom was right out of the 1960's

Ho Hum Helmsley

Hotel was not anywhere near what we expected. Older hotel, outdated bathrooms, internet and TV never worked properly despite complaining several times. The most amazing thing was having to order ice from room service whenever we needed it $$$!! We were charged for snacks that we never took. It all made for a very unhappy week-end. It was close to the Met Central Park and MOMA

Great Location

When I checked in I had paid for 2 rooms. Their computer showed only 1 room. They required that I give a credit card to pay for 2nd room (again) in case they could not get it fixed with [...].Ultimately worked out [...] but the process was time consuming and upsetting.

Great location. Walked around Central Park. Toured Columbus Circle Whole Foods. Walked around 15 Central Park West - Lloyd Blankfein was walking out as we passed by - kind of cool........ Had a great dinner at Bobby Vans - about 10 minute walk.

Awesome first time trip to NYC

We took a cab to the hotel at 8 am and were hoping to check in early which thankfully we were able to do! That was really nice. Great location, friendly staff, but we did have an unfortunate experience with room service. I orderd pancakes for breakfast and when my boyfriend had a bite he bit into glass that was inside our pancakes! It was horrible but thankfully he wasn't hurt. The room service staff was rude to us when we let them know what happened. We didn't let the bad experience bother us and made no fuss but when we checked out I let them know what happened and they apologized and said they were not aware of the incident. There is a subway stop right outside the hotel which was very convenient. All the wonderful high end stores are very close to the hotel. The hotel feels old but it is nice and clean, I wouldn't recommend it for a young couple like us.

Overall, our experience was good. For the price I would have expected more consideration from the staff. I had a computer issue that would have been nice to have some additional help on.

Decent hotel for the price

The hotel is in a good location and has very convenient access to midtown and subways. The room was small but adequate. Despite being in a "quiet" location, I could still hear street noise.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Eat elsewhere. Prices on Central Park South are absurd. Walk one block south on Sixth Avenue for breakfast and a few more blocks for other meals

mediocre at best

The hotel charges over $500 dollars per night. The rooms are nothing special and appear worn out. Continental breakfast is pathetic.

Amazing view but a dated room

[...] The key card didn't work, so I returned to reception. When I returned to the desk they offered me an alternative room, smaller, but with a park view. I went to the room and the key card did not work again, and had to return to the desk a second time - security needed to escort me to my room to let me in. This hotel had a comfortable bed, nice touches like slippers and floor mats, but there was wear and tear on the walls, furniture and the bathroom needed an update. The view was the best i've had in New York, but for the cost of the room I would have expected a renovated hotel.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Put on your running shoes and take a long walk through Central Park. You experience life like a real New Yorker, and the energy and nature in this national gem is amazing. Truly an oasis in this busy city.
