Not really a 4 Star Hotel

The Hotel staff were very good from the bell men to the front desk people. Room was small but not a big problem as we were out off the room early and came back late. The decor is 70’s and does not apper to have been updated since then. The area is excellent. If you plan on spending most of your time out of your room it is a good deal. Maybe a 3 1/2 star except for the location.

Empire fell short of expectations

Bathroom was very small and had evidence of water damage (rust on door hinges and peeling paint). The primary issue was having only half a shower door (slidding half removed) so shower water splashes all over the floor. When I complained about it, I was informed that "all" of the rooms in the hotel have only half a shower door. Fortunately the hotel was willing provide extra towels daily to sop up the water. Though I have limited experinence with Manhattan hotels, next time I will stay somewhere nicer for less money and happily walk a few more blocks.

Good location-nothing fancy

Recent 3 night wknd stay at the Empire Hotel was average. We failed to request an interior room so the traffic kept us up at night-windows did not filter anything. Beware: there is a night club upstairs so at closing time- lots of loud people descend the streets below. The pros- room was updated, includes a safe, shower head had great pressure, flat screen tv was nice, comfy beds. The cons: very compact, peeling wallpaper and bathroom door, not much room in bathroom for toiletries, no shower door?, and no complimentary coffee ($3 per Keurig, seriously?) & that darn street noise. We were hardly in the room but expected a cup of coffee and wifi at the very least. :(

Location, location, location

Fabulous location and clean, nice rooms are slightly counter-balanced by consistent elevator nightmares & lack of clean restroom facilities in the common areas. Would definitely stay here again because the positives outweigh the negatives but was surprised by some glaring problems that did not seem to be a priority for remedying at the price of the rooms.

For a wonderful gem of a restaurant check out indie food and wine tucked away inside the film center at the Lincoln Center. The students at the School of American Ballet have discovered its virtues & shared this tip. Great atmosphere, no wait even on a Friday night, where the wait time at all other locations hovered at an hour & very tasty food.

Nice Hotel, Great Location

Lobby cool, location great- maybe would stay more central next time, but wonderful neighborhood- next to Central Park & Lincoln Center. You can walk to most other areas for example Times Square is a 20 min. walk away. The door man was super helpful arranging return transportation to airport. Front desk kindly reversed the extra charge for a suite upgrade. The queen bed pull out sofa was terrible. Told a supervisor the fist night but that was pretty much ignored. Told associate upon check out and she was more than helpful. It was not loud like some of the other reviews indicate and we were there on a Sat. The hotel is safe, nice, and good location- would stay there again.

Good location if seeing a lot of Broadway shows

Overall is it was good except for a couple of annoying things. There didn't seem to be any way to turn down the air con and it was cold on a couple of nights. Many times there were issues with the elevators. Sometimes only one or two out of four were working, which is quite noticeable with such a busy hotel.

Empire pros and cons

Pros: Great location and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Lobby and bar are nice and there are amenities right outside the door (Rx, Starbucks, etc.). Hospitality was very responsive to requests. Rooms are New York sized (small), but at least well designed. In room coffee charges $3 (but Starbucks right outside). No ice machines, but ice on request. Air conditioning is not very effective. Rooftop bar is not run by the hotel and is cheezy, unless you want a bridge and tunnel clientele feel. Security with earpieces control access -- even when the place is empty. It does have a nice view though.

Great location but needs some help

Checked in on a Friday evening, the front desk (especially Jose) was very helpful. The lobby itself was very cold due to the main doors being left open with the wind gusting inside. The decor is very nice and the hotel is clean. Stayed on a lower floor, so street noise was constant. Also, being there on a weekend, there were lines outside the hotel for the bar/club. With that many people coming and going, there was virtually no security. The location is ideal and why we chose to stay here. Across the street from Lincoln Center, 1 block away from the subway and a 5-10 minute walk from Columbus Circle. I got locked into the bathroom on our 2nd day's stay (due to a flimsy door handle) and when I finally got out (thanks to the person I was staying with) went down and told the front desk. I was told that someone would look at it and assumed they did, although the door knob was still bad. Also, they never offered any compensation or anything for my ordeal. The bathroom shower stall was lovely and had nice shower heads available. The space is small and there was peeling paint on the door jam and bathroom door. The beds were comfortable, the TV very large and pillows were great. No heat second day there and asked about that and as told that the "boiler" doesn't come on unless it's colder than 50 degrees. Overall, it was a mixed bag. Great location, with a few things that could be great improved on the inside. Not sure if I would stay there again for the price tag.
