Dining

Cafe Carlyle
The nightly scene is out of an old MGM classic, camera ready with a backdrop that is pure Manhattan and a soundtrack that is classic cabaret. Café Carlyle is known for headlining incredible talents, including Eartha Kitt, Ute Lemper and Woody Allen, who regularly appears to jam with the Eddy Davis New Orleans jazz band. For the past three decades, Café Carlyle has been synonymous with the legendary Bobby Short, who thrilled sell-out crowds for 36 years. His spirit will live on through the music at Café Carlyle.
Bemelmans Bar
Best remembered as the creator of the classic Madeline books for children, Ludwig Bemelmans once joked he'd like his tombstone to read: "Tell Them It Was Wonderful." Well, wonderful it was, and still is, at Bemelmans Bar. Named in honor of the legendary artist, Bemelmans is a timeless New York watering hole that has drawn socialites, politicians, movie stars and moguls for more than five decades.
The Gallery
Exotic, elegant décor by legendary decorator Renzo Mongiardino sets the stage for a private retreat favored by the rich, the famous and the beautiful since the hotel's inception. Inspired by the sultan's dining room at the Topikapi Palace in Turkey, The Gallery is divided into two tiers.
The Carlyle Restaurant
A long-time favorite among prominent eastside neighbors and socialites, The Carlyle Restaurant, designed in the English manor house style by the late Mark Hampton, marries luxury with intimacy. Patrons feel at home at once, ready to devote their full attention to the menu that spotlights dishes from Executive Chef James Sakatos' native Greece, classic French influences and the finest regional American ingredients.

The larger of the restaurant's two intimately lit rooms features plush chintz-covered banquettes, Aubusson rugs and mirrored alcoves, set off by a dramatic six-foot-tall floral arrangement. Just off the main room, a smaller dining room shimmers in Fortuny silk. Throughout, English hunting scenes by Fores, as well as engravings by Redoute and Liliacae, complete the country house ambience.

wow!

the hotel is everything it's supposed to be. classic, immaculate, attentive, elegant.....but if you have a budget don't be seduced by the modest room rate for a manhattan 5 star. drinks in the bar with cool jazz and woody allen playing can come to several hundred $$ for 2 people for two hours. breakfast for two with tax and tip is $100. 24 hour room service and elevator operators, but no ironing board in the room(the 24/7 maid will take care of it)--it's spectacular but it isn't reasonable.

outstanding guest services and rooms. one can't buy or build the charm and details of the past. They can only be earned over time by giving guests the best every day. Everyone made us feel like the only person in the world and we will cherish the memories. personal thanks to Roger and Tony for their assistance in getting us in to see Woody Allen. If they will have us back i will only stay at The Carlyle when we return to NYC.

Fabulous Classic Hotel

The hotel was very classy, with a super clean and comfy room. The room had been recently updated but still kept the classic feel. The bathroom was luxurious and spotless. The staff was very friendly and always helpful. The hotel is in a great location close to the subway and close to Central Park. It is a very safe neighborhood and lots of shopping between Park, Lexington and Madison Avenues. The only downside is the food/drinks in hotel are quite pricey. Gym was great! If you are looking for a traditional, old school, NYC visit this is the hotel for you.

Friendly, elegant, and furnish Kiehl's bath products

This is a great place to stay if you want to be near Madison Ave. & 5th. Ave. for shopping. It is a 2 min. walk to a beautiful area of Central Park, near the Alice in Wonderland statue and the lake with tiny sailboats. Other than that, it's a taxi ride to all other areas. The room was large compared to most NYC hotels, with a sitting area, 2 walk-in closets, and a walk-in bar. The staff was friendly and helpful, even microwaving my daughter's food & putting it on a plate.

Amazing hotel for children

Amazing guest service, esp. for my 6 year old daughter. They left sweets for her upon arrival and a special note, bear, coloring book and puzzle during turn down. She called it "home" our first night! Great walking accessibility to Central Park and the museums. We will be back!
