Great Location!!!
The Seton is just 3 blocks away from Grand Central Station. The staff is really nice - they held our luggage after check out until we were ready to leave Manhattan. If you end up having to get a room with a shared bathroom, it is not a big issue. The bathroom was located down the hallway from our room and it was never in use when I needed it. I will definitely be returning to the Seton for my next New York trip.

Be Careful when selecting your room!
I pitched in with my sister when planning a surprise Mother's Day Trip to NYC.. We booked a standard double bed w/ private bath room at the Seton Hotel. However when we got to the room, it basically hadn't changed since it opened in probably 1812. The room was tiny w/ a tiny bathroom. The A/C didn't work. The "city view" was a view of an alley way, barbed wire over a fence, and trash. The only nice things in the room were the beds. On the second day of our stay we asked the front desk about our A/C not functioning. When we returned to the hotel later that afternoon, we were excited to hear that since the engineer couldn't fix the A/C, we were being given a complimentary upgrade to a newly renovated room. This made the world of a difference and had we been in this room both nights I would have given the hotel 5 stars on all the ratings. The beds were great, lighting was great, bathroom was great w/ a full tub. Everything was renovated. It was GREAT! So if you are choosing the Seton Hotel, make sure you know what room you're selecting or your Hotel might look like a Motel..

SOHO.. Awesome shops!! Also, for Nightlife - go to 230 Fifth Ave.. it has the BEST rooftop bar w/ the Empire State Building in the background! (pricey but worth it for a drink or two)

Horrible
Sheets were dirty. The hotel was full of dust from construction I WAS NOT INFORMED OF. I could not sleep because of all of the banging and construction going on. The carpet was stained and filthy my feet were black! There were bugs in the bath tub, it was just outrageous.

Really good location, atmosphere and service
I just recently stayed at this hotel, it was perfect for our group of 4. I had originally booked the unrenivated room but due to overcrowding they ungraded us, I was very please with that. When you book through here you're booking an unrenivated room and to be blunt they're really run down, you're not getting what's advertised on the pictures. Due to that the reviews for this hotel are mostly negative but the hotel is lovely. The location was great a brisk 5 minute walk to Grand Central which has subway stations uptown, downtown, Queens and a shuttle straight to Times Square. Customer service was wonderful. We we're treated to delicious coffee/ hot chocolate/tea maker in the lounge which came in very handy on those cold winter days. over all the hotel is great for the price and location, you won't regret it. P.S.- beware the elevator

Good basic accomodation
You get what you pay for. Older hotel basic services but the staff are brilliant. Served our requirements for short stay (3 nights). Great for Midtown Manhatten shopping and sights.

Good for short stays
Room was clean and neat with firm bedding. Carpeting very old and worn as is the wall paint. Rooms are small but great location. We were able to walk to Time Square and also RC to see the Christmas Tree.

bad hotel
The Seton Hotel is very bad!! The room is very small and not clean. No furniture (such as table, chairs) is available in the room. And more surprisingly, there is no bathroom, which is really ridiculous!!! I will never live in this hotel again...

good location
The Seton is in a great location close to the Grand Central Station. The hotel website indicates that the rooms are newly renovated and show pictures of the newly renovated rooms. Only 3 floors of 6 have newly renovated rooms. Since we booked through "Orbitz" this is why we were told that we received the "unrenovated rooms" which was a big disappointment especially since I booked this hotel mainly because we wanted to be in the newly renovated rooms. Anyhow, The Clerk on call was kind enough to let us stay in an available renovated room our last night. Bottom Line... the hotel shouldn't advertise renovated rooms without being more specific.
