short week-end visit to see the holiday lights and shopping. great location, near everything. very comfortable hotel. room ... was very small, but, that's what you get when you book on line to get the cheapest rate, and pay in advance. one has no recourse when arriving and checking in to request more suitable rooms. But, that's New York City. one doesn't travel to NYC to stay in one's room all day.

I took the train to NYC to catch a concert at Madison Square Garden (which is just a block down the street) and left early ... the next morning. This hotel was perfect for the overnight portion of the trip. Check-in was a breeze. My room was Manhattan small but I was only in it to change clothes before the show and sleep afterwards. The room looked like it had recently been renovated and was very clean. The hotel is extrememly convenient for anybody arriving and/or departing from Penn Station.

We had tickets for SHREK and it was fantastic. We also did a tour -ON BOARD TOURS which was wonderful. We could never seen so much of New York on our own and had a licensed tour giuide with us for the entire trip. This was a 5 1/2 hour tour.

ONCE WE FIGURED OUT WHERE WE WERE WE TOOK THE NIGHT LIGHT TOUR ON ARRIVAL NIGHT, PLANE WAS LATE SO WE HAD TO HUSSLE TO GET TO ... THE TOUR. HAD TO TAKE A TAXI AND LOSE ONE PREPAID SHUTTLE RIDE, THEY WERE SURLY AND COULD NOT ASSURE OUR GETTING TO SITE. RECOMMEND TAXI RATHER THAN SHUTTLE, FASTER AND NO STOPS AND SOMETIMES A DRIVER PERSPECTIVE TOUR DEPENDING ON DRIVER. HOTEL GREAT LOCATION, COFFEE BEST ACROSS STREET. WALKABLE DISTANCE TO UPTOWN, TAKE 7TH RATHER THAN 8TH, CLEANER AND MORE TO SEE. NOT FAR. UPTOWN CENTRAL STATION JUST WONDERFUL , LIGHTS, SOUNDS, LIFE, SAFE!!!. NOT WHAT I EXPECTED, SAFE AT ALL TIMES.

Used the hotel for only sleeping. Room and the bed were small; but it was very close to most of the places you want to see in ... NY (Empire State, Times Square, Macy's for shoppers). Easy access to subway. How to get to the hotel from JFK: From your terminal at JFK take the Airtrain to the Jamaica station. It is easy to find the Airtrain at the airport and there will be very clear signs and probably people to help you make sure you get the train heading in the right direction. It costs $5. From Jamaica you will be able to get the E train into Manhattan. It will be the train heading to the World Trade Center station. You can take the E train directly to the Times Square station which will leave you at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue.

As tourists we also took the grey line tour - 48 hours to hop off and on. The tour guides were very good at filling us in on some of the special nuances of the sites we were passing. We hit areas all over so that we could get off and walk around, then catch the tour bus back to where we needed to go. A great alternative to taxi's and trying to figure out the subway system.
--Sharon & Joe, Boston, MA Aug 31, 2009

Find out about the Metro Passes for the Subway and the buses. I think we could have saved some money if we had purchased a 3 days pass. Also, most of the food places serve very large amounts. Splitting a meal would have helped.

Go to the Rockerfellar centre as its less time to queue than the Empire State and you then get views of the Empire State.
--Boltons Mum, Bristol - UK Aug 8, 2009
For tourist like we were. We walked to time square just a few short minutes away and we bought tickets for the double decker Grayline tours it was $49 dollars and we were able to use the bus services for the next 3 days. It left you in N.Y. main attractions like statue of liberty, Canal street for shopping. During the four days we were there we only used that bus. And never had to get the train, bus or taxi.
--Betty, Salt lake city, Utah Aug 7, 2009
There is a Duane Reade kitty corner to the hotel on the far corner of 34th St. Stock up on water and snacks there. They also have an ATM there.
--business mom, palo alto, ca Aug 5, 2009
Ticket prices are cheaper for some plays at the ticket office on 47th.
--Theater Lover, Booneville, MS Aug 4, 2009
Johns Pizzaria on 44th is a place we eat every time we visit the city! The Tick Tock Diner on the corner of the hotel was great. Open 24hours. Great food. And a window booth made people watching possible. Good value for NYC. They have closed the streets to traffic in Times Square and have seating areas. You can buy food and eat it there at cafe tables. Its wonderful and very entertaining.
