Nice stay

Very nice stay for the price I paid. The towels alone almost made me want to book another night. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean and fresh. The hotel personnel were also very helpful and friendly, something I didn't expect in New York. I was misled by the website saying there was free internet, which there is but only in the lobby, not in the rooms.

The most wonderful time

My husband and I just returned from a six night stay at On The Ave. We booked this hotel based off it's good reviews online... This hotel far exceeded our expectations. The Christmas decorations were A-plus as well as the rest of the decor. The hotel lobby and rooms are much bigger than other hotels we've stayed at in New York. The hotel has a specialized air freshener that circulates throughout the lobby - we read some negative reviews because of this but we enjoyed it and to us we consider this a special treatment from higher end hotels. (JW Marriott's has this as well). The bed is very comfortable as well as the pillows. There was plenty of heat as well as lots of hot water! Which is exactly what we needed after the 20 degree weather. Most days we found ourselves sleeping in because we were too comfy! We had a package delivered to the hotel during our stay and the director of security for the hotel delivered the package to ensure we received everything - wow! The hotel staff also called half-way through our stay to see how it was going and if there was anything else we needed - wow! And then on our last day we had a late flight and the hotel let us check out at 3pm - wow! The location of the hotel is great with subway access at 72nd and 79th street. Walking distance to Central Park - this is a family community and I would feel safe bribing my young ones here. Just across the street is a wonderful diner, Manhattan Diner, we ate breakfast there 3 times. They have fresh squeezed orange juice, pancakes and great bagels! Cheap prices too - $5 - 10. We had a wonderful Italian dinner at Coppola's off of 79th and Amsterdam (I think). It's pricy, but worth it about $20 a plate. Crumbs bakery is also nearby as well. We're not big coffee drinkers but the hotel provides Starbucks coffee in the lobby each morning & there is a Keurig in the room. There are only two things I would change about the hotel: add HDTV to the rooms - there is a 42 inch TV in the rooms already & eliminate the tub bottoms from the showers... It would make the showers seem more up-to-date. By far our best stay in NYC to date!

Take the 1 trains to and from 79th street when traveling throughout the city. It's by far the fastest!

GREAT place to stay

The hotel was great. Very clean, staffs were friendly. Inside has been remodeled so it has a very contemporary modern look. It was also very close to the train station (2 blocks away) which made it very convenient for me to go around town. However, it gets a 4 star because it doesn't have a restaurant and does not include breakfast.

Tiny Rooms

The hotel location was great, a half block off Broadway, the lobby and the staff were excellent. I only had two complaints, there was no free wifi in the rooms, only the lobby and the major complaint was room size. The room was ridiculously small. There was barely enough room for the queen sized bed, you had to squeeze by the half desk at the foot of bed! This hotel room was smaller than our bedroom.

Good hotel

The rooms were very clean and the service was great, doorman polite and relaxed, for New York. Location was, of course, very safe. A very good neighborhood. Good resturants nearby. They should say they are located on 77th and Broadway, it would be easier for taxis to find.

Surprisingly nice

I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The staff was great. While you have to want to be this far up town for your hotel I found the neighborhood to be great and the hotel is very nice. Rooms though are verrry small (desk chair would not pull out without hitting the bed) but all I do is sleep in my room so if you don't need space to spread out then this is a great hotel for you.

nice place for a quick trip

I was traveling to NYC to escort my daughter to college and picked OTA just from the internet because it was just 2 miles from the college. The staff was very friendly and the room was small but clean and the bed was super comfy. Plenty of restaurants were nearby also.
