bad experience through Orbitz
Upgrade for a better view room (higher levels) via Orbitz booking was not respected by the Hotel Staff. Didn't want to credited A-Club miles because it was booked via Orbitz. Gave me a smoking room instead of a non-smoking as it was requested on my booking on Orbitz... Don't book on Orbitz even if it's cheaper!

The best location
Fantastic central location just steps away from Times Square, the subway and tour busses. elevated outdoor terrace with a fantastic outlook down Broadway and Times Sq, food and bar service ,comfortable seating,making the hotel an oasis to re-charge ourselves ready to get back out into the city. Very good breakfast buffet with stunning views of the city skyline and Times Sq. Our room was generously sized and recently refurbished to an excelent specification.

Top of the Rock at the Rockafella Centre is better (I think) than the Empire state and not so crowded,go just before sunset and stay to see the sun go down and the city lights come on,there is limited seating available so you can take the weight off your feet for a while.The views are through uninterupted glass walls with gaps that you can take photo's through.

Stay away, under renovation and not worth the cost
Stayed at the hotel before, rated it highly. Being rebuilt - building work everywhere. No food, no minibars, unhappy guests. Stay away until finished! Not value for money at the moment

Disappointing
Great location! Thats about it. The hotel is under construction, no air conditioning or heat in the room. No hot water after 9AM. No room service, no anything. Lobby is a war zone with a constant scream of saws behind plastic backdrops. Staff could not be bothered with your issues. Website advertises "Kids eat free". Not true as the only food in the building is vending machines in the lobby.

GOOD LOCATION
THE HOTEL WAS IN A GOOD LOCATION. THE ROOM, HOWEVER WAS HOT, AIR SYSTEM BROKEN, AND WHEN WE ASKED TO BE MOVED, THEY HAD NO OTHER ROOM. AFTER 2 REQUESTS FOR MAINTENENCE TO CHECK IT OUT, THEY SENT SOMEONE BUT IT DID NOT GET FIXED. WHEN WE ASKED FOR THE AIRPORT SHUTTLE (4 HOURS ADVANCE NOTICE) WHEN IT WAS TIME TO LEAVE, THE SHUTTLE SERVICE NEVER ARRIVED AND WE HAD TO GET A $57.00 + TIP TAXI RIDE AND ALMOST MISSED OUR PLANE. MAYBE THIS IS COMMON, BUT VERY STRESSFUL.

poor service, unfriendly staff,poor room
I suggest trying something else in the zone for the same price, or spending a bit more money. This hotel needs to change a lot of things, you don't really get what you pay for. Besides, staff is not friendly at all, they made us come back for checkin and took twice the rate from our credit card, still waiting for refund.

The real deal
the value was not there..totally over priced. Held a large business dinner at Cafe Nicole with 12 ppl. The service was horrible, the food was mediocre, and the wait for dinner was well over an hour.

Beware of Renovation - No Bar or Restaurant
It looks like a nice Hotel for the price in NY, but beware of the renovation taking place. The pictures on their website look great, but no bar and no restaurant and they don't bother to tell you up front. If your just looking for a place to crash in a good location, I recommend it, but for basic amenities like a bar and room service, I would go somewhere else until the renovation is complete. PS. They have two elevators to get from street level to the Hotel and one is being used for construction, then another set of elevators to get to your room, so plan on some elevator wait time.

Not a Four Star
The Novotel was not a four star hotel by any means at all. Not only that but the amenities that this hotel offered were a dissapointment, no free internet access, no gym, no pool. To even use the refrigerator in your room you get charged! The hotel is close to times square but not in it, several other hotels were closer to times square.
