Pricey but not astronomical and accessible to NYC sights

The Marriot Downtown NYC is a very nice hotel which is accessible to downtown NYC and even uptown with between a 10-25 taxi drive. You also have access to N, R, and Path trains within about 4 blocks. It is just behind the beautiful new World Trade Center building and 9/11 memorial. Our room had a beautiful view of the water and the window near the elevator had a majestic view of the new WTC building. It is a bit pricey for weekend holidays (~$350/night for labor day saturday night) but amazingly much cheaper than other city hotels. It's a great walk also, across the Brooklyn Bridge to the beautiful and scenic views at the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.

If you have three or more in your party, it's probably faster and cheaper to just take a taxi to most sites from the Marriot Downtown NYC

The Good and The Bad

One block from the World Trade Center location, I had an excellent stay here before. The bad start was the formerly beautiful bar, just off the lobby and on West Street, was now 'an extension of the lobby' and just a plain room: bright, airy, beautiful decor, and EMPTY!I checked in and they gave ma a "handicapped accessible" room, which i didn't need[...]. I didn't argue because we were staying just overnight, and only really sleeping there. The room was nice, but there were these fluffy white tufts of what looked like cotton around the room on the floor. I'm not sure what they were, but they shouldn't have been there. So the aforementioned former bar in the front lobby was replaced by a kind of Sports Bar in the back of the hotel. The music was too loud (there were only about 8 people there from 6-7:30 p.m.), but our server was BEAUTIFUL, so that made up for it.The bed was VERY comfortable, and the pillows were awesome! It is a nice hotel with a great location, and i would go there again, in spite of the missteps...

Delighted with our choice

We were extremely pleased with our decision to stay out of midtown as this area is perhaps somewhat underated. The subway connections are only two blocks away from the hotel and getting uptown is exceptionally easy. The hotel is very close to a lovely promenade and Battery Park which is very scenic and a complete break from the hustle of the city. Century 21 is very close by and is a serious bargain hunter's delight. As you are so close to it, it is easy to get there very early, do some shopping and still have the rest of the day to sightsee. Restaurants are a little limited in the area but George's Restaurant on Greenwich Street provides an excellent breakfast. The World Trade Centre site is beside the hotel and makes for a sobering visit. The hotel itself is very pleasant, clean and quiet, the beds and pillows are extremely comfortable so we had no complaints at all. All in all, we would return in the future.

Great hotel, Location was great.

Hotel location was great. Easy walk to Battery Park. Easy access to Subway and lots of Taxi's around. Hotel staff was very helpfuL. Rooms were great. Would definately stay here again. Be prepared to take some sort of transportation to get to mid town. But atleast you experience all of Manhattan that way.

spacious

The Hotel staff was friendly but did not seem to care when we arrived that our room was not clean and all of the glasses in the room were dirty. No concern. The laminate floor as you walked into the room was coming up and to go from the room to the bathroom you had to step over it. Very surprising for what was supposed to be a four star hotel????

Great First Visit

My husband and I went for my upcoming birthday. The hotel was wonderful. The people were wonderful. Very professional, yet good sense of humor. They answered all our questions, helped w/ directions on how to get to the public transportation, which was close by, etc. We did not eat there as I wanted the downtown deli foods. There was some noise, but we were near the WTC site. It didn't bother me at all. My thought is if you are in the city, you're going to hear noise of some kind.
