NY 2010 Marriott

The check-in was very bad. No one came out to help with our luggage to bring it in from the street late at night. Then at the check-in, we asked for a room where 4 people could sleep comfortably. Instead, we got a room with very small and uncomfortable beds. [...]

Do not eat at the hotel. There are many very fine and inexpensive dining places within very short walking distance from the hotel

Vacation

The hotel was nice, bed was very comfortable, service was great. The only thing was the alarm went off at 4am and we arrived at 1am, only slept for 3 hours. I always stay at nice hotel 4 or 5 star but this was the first time I experienced to ran out of the room at 4am. The hotel did not compensate anything but blamed that someone pulled out the fire alarm. It happened twice within 5 minutes then it was impossible that someone pulled out the fire alarm.

House hunting trip

The staff was extremely friendly, and the location can't be beat. The rooms were also furnished beautifully, but for the price I was surprised at the lack of amenities. A small bottle of water cost $5 while a medium sized bottle cost $7.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

All of the major subway lines are easily within a five minute walk. Take the subway instead of a taxi and explore the city.

New York City Downtown Marriot-Financial

This is a great place to stay in new york city if you don't want to be in the hustle and bustle of times square. It is close to a subway entrance and only a mile from the south street seaport. The hotel was very clean and welcoming with a knowledgeable and friendly staff. The bar called 85 west bar and grill had good food but poor service. The view of the Hudson River from our room was breathtaking.

The Good and The Bad

One block from the World Trade Center location, I had an excellent stay here before. The bad start was the formerly beautiful bar, just off the lobby and on West Street, was now 'an extension of the lobby' and just a plain room: bright, airy, beautiful decor, and EMPTY!I checked in and they gave ma a "handicapped accessible" room, which i didn't need[...]. I didn't argue because we were staying just overnight, and only really sleeping there. The room was nice, but there were these fluffy white tufts of what looked like cotton around the room on the floor. I'm not sure what they were, but they shouldn't have been there. So the aforementioned former bar in the front lobby was replaced by a kind of Sports Bar in the back of the hotel. The music was too loud (there were only about 8 people there from 6-7:30 p.m.), but our server was BEAUTIFUL, so that made up for it.The bed was VERY comfortable, and the pillows were awesome! It is a nice hotel with a great location, and i would go there again, in spite of the missteps...

Mid-August visit

Hotel was close to downtown sites, such as Ground Zero and the ferry for the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island as well as being near the Rector Street station for the 1 (subway) train. New York (Manhattan) hotels have outrageous prices, but the weekend prices here were LESS outrageous and we found a rate that added only $5.00 to the per night room rate, but bought 3 breakfast buffets for the family that we would have had to pay $66 for otherwise. Rooms were a little small, but we expected that in New York. We had wanted two double beds, but no such rooms were available, so we had to make do with a king-size and a roll-away for the four of us.

Merchant's, suggested by the concierge, had good food, friendly staff and moderate prices less than a five minute walk from the hotel's back door.
