Dining

Aspen Social Club Restaurant
Rocky Mountain ski lodge meets swank hotel bar at The Aspen Social Club. As the midtown outpost of uber-chic W. 22nd Street eatery and lounge Aspen, this alluring midtown Manhattan tapas bar boasts a vibe that is cozy, sleek, and eye-popping. Call it "modern rustic sophistication" -- with wonderful touches like a curved wood-plank ceiling, acid-etched glass walls, and a dense canopy of illuminated antlers above the dining room leaving you feeling like you spent some time at altitude. And the cuisine more than holds its own. Chef Adam Ross has crafted a comfort food menu with Colorado flair. As the night progresses, this New York City tapas restaurant takes it up a notch with hypnotic house music and an artisanal cocktail menu that longtime Aspen resident Hunter S. Thompson would've loved.

A small gem in a crazy neighborhood

While I was only there a few hours to quick some sleep - I found the staff to be friendly, the rooms clean and well designed (despite being TINY), and an inviting bar to grab a cocktail before I hit the pillow.

Stay in NYC near Time Square?

The hotel is nice, small rooms but very clean. The staff is friendly and attentive. The location is what I'd warn people about. It's in the heart of Time Square, so you really have to battle to move around once you leave the hotel. If you don't mind all the tourists, it's a good place to stay for a lower rate, but you may be able to find something away from Time Square, that isn't as busy.

nice but S-M-A-L-L

Staff was friendly and helpful but a little disorganized. Got there several hours before formal check-in, but room was ready, which was nice. Aspen restaurant downstairs had very good food (arugula & beet salad and portobello burger) and tasty house specialty drinks (Acai Margarita was delicious!). Our room was the size of a [large] walk-in closet...w/ a queen-sized bed in it. Teeny tiny, but clean and we didn't spend much time in the room, anyway, so it was fine. In-room Bose Wave Radio had iPod hookup, which was nice. Wouldn't have realized we were next to Times Square if we hadn't finally turned right out of the hotel entrance. No on-site gym, but they have access to the New York Sports Club, which wasn't far.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There were several places in the immediate vicinity to grab a quick, fairly inexpensive bite, which was nice. Great coffee around the corner at the Financier Patisserie.

unbeatable location for the price

The room was a standard room with double bed with 2 feet of walking space around the bed. It was very clean, bed was comfortable. The hotel is pretty and one minute away from time square, a few more to the theaters, Rockefeller Center, the subway is nearby and parking next door. There is a deli next door with good coffee for a buck and pretty much anything you need.

You may not want to stay at Stay

The hotel was very loud on weekend nights because of the lounge on the first floor played dance music late into the night. The two tiny elevators were either out of order or took a long time to catch without being full, nobody offered to assist us with our luggage. The whole place was very dimly lit trying to be chic but missing the mark. Asked for a bottle opener to take up to our room but was instructed to to walk into the bar and have the busy bartender open the bottle for me and supply us with some plastic cups. Our remote control did not work and when I reported the issue to the front desk they said they would take core of it. After pausing for a second or two I asked them if they would like to know my room number in order to help us with this, to which they replied, "oh, yeah, what room are you in?" no small fridge in the room or closet so with bags on the floor, there was almost no room to move in the room at all. One staff member was helpful with directions and the room was clean. These were about the only two pluses of the entire stay.

The Stay Hotel NYC

Very convenient to Times Square and my business appointments. The rooms were small but nicely decorated and surprisingly quiet. There were no working ice machines but room service was happy to promptly deliver ice. They have adopted the chic vibe of The W hotels and the lobby bar was a very interesting place to have a few drinks.

Watch your credit card statement!!

The hotel is beautiful. Small, but nicely decorated. Comfortable bed. We stayed one night. The one night we stayed, we opened the refrigerator to keep a dessert cool. At checkout they tried to say that we drank two waters ($10) from the fridge. They tried to do the same to the people in front of us too. We told them we did NOT take waters from the fridge and not to charge us for it. When I looked at my checking account statement not only did they charge me for the water, but they also charged me an additional $170. For what? Who knows. We paid in full through [...]. We called and got it straightened out. I think. Still waiting for the credit. So moral of the story...check your statements. They WILL try.

The room was extremely small

When we arrived, the staff was young and childish. They were messing around instead of helping us check in. The room was extremely small and there was no bath tub, just a shower. I did appreciate the fact that it was overall pretty clean. Late at night, we could hear the music from the club down stairs and we were on the fourth floor. But overall, the hotel served its purpose.
