Small Rooms but Great Location
The Mayfair need an update and the rooms are the smallest I have ever seen but very clean. You really can't beat the location for a New York theater stay, "Book of Mormon" was playing right next door. We actually went to a show in the Village and dinner in Soho but the C and E subway lines right on the corner (8th Ave & 49th St.) made it easy. Definitely not a boutique hotel but a good buy.

On its way downhill
I stayed here a few years ago and really liked it, (super location) but it's gone downhill. The carpet on the stairs and lobby needed to be replaced years ago, the A/C unit in my room was noisy and the remote control stopped working during my stay (told the front desk; nothing happened), but worst was the elevator. I stayed 7 nights, the elevator was operational maybe a total of 4, breaking down at least three different times. I won't stay here again.

Don't stay here. No, seriously. Don't stay here.
I used to think that if a hotel was well-located, I could forgive any number of sins because I spent so little time in my room. The Mayfair Hotel has finally disproved this theory. Yes, the location is right in Times Square, but the dingy accommodations, surly staff and decrepit condition of this hotel combine to cancel out any advantage its proximity might provide. Specifically, it took the incompetent desk staff three tries to get me a room key that worked and they were neither apologetic nor particularly solicitous about the situation. Only Jason, the bellhop, was ready to help. The front desk staff also refused to look up or acknowledge guests coming in or leaving, which took effort since they were stationed right by the front door. Then the one guest elevator only worked sporadically, a real treat for visitors staying on higher floors. Once in the room, I discovered that the linens were dingy and dirty-looking and weren't even long enough to cover the mattress at the foot of the bed. I could go on, but you get the picture. I can put up with a lot, but poor accommodations and bad staff attitude add up to a total loser of a hotel.

Vacations in NY
The location of this hotel is perfect! close by the subway, the time square, lots of good restaurants nearby and the broadway shows. The room was clean and the bed confortable, eventhought the room was very small. I did miss the coffee maker in the room. The staff was very helpful in giving you directions to move around NY. This was our first time in the big apple and didnt get lost! Thank you for the directions...

Nice, but tiny.
The room was very clean and well taken care of. The downstairs is very rustic, in a good way. Lots of hard wood. Staff was "johnny on the spot". They were there when you needed them, and not there when you didn't. The only problem is that the space around the bed and the small entryway are the only space in the room. No sitting area, no sofa or recliner, TV is over the bed, so you have to watch tv while laying in the bed.

Broadway Break
I chose this hotel for it's location near the theaters and TKTS booth as well as the good reviews. It did not disappoint. Check in was efficient, room nice, and staff helpful when needed. There is only one small elevator and it can either be full or take a while to respond. it is next door to the theater where Book of Mormon is currently playing and a three block walk to the TKTS booth for half price tickets. Like you expect in NY, the room was smallish but the bath was large and there was a great closet in the room. Nice linens, hair dryer, iron, and WiFi also were welcome amenities.

Everyone has their favorite pizza place in NY. Mine is Famous Amadaeus on 8th at 51st St. Just over a block and a half away. There is also a very nice coffee shop just steps from the hotel toward Broadway.

Good value accommodation near Broadway
We only had one night in New York and wanted to be as close as we could to Broadway, Times Square and the United Nations buildings. This hotel fitted the bill perfectly. The room was tiny and the staff non-existent a lot of the time, and the hotel entrance itself is easy to miss. But it's close to the Majestic Theatre and so many of the other venues and was easy to reach on foot from the railway station
