Intimate, European-style boutique hotel in the Theater District
This intimate, European-style hotel is a contrast to its surrounding neighborhoods -- the showy and loud Theater District and Times Square. Where Midtown Manhattan is big and loud, the Mayfair New York Hotel is cozy and understated. Amenities include a business center and around-the-clock concierge service. Special touches such as fresh flowers in the rooms are unexpected in a property of this size.
Highlights

  • Next to the Eugene O'Neill Theater
  • Near theaters, Times Square entertainment and shopping
Location

The hotel puts guests steps away from Broadway shows. The Mayfair New York Hotel is adjacent to the Eugene O'Neill Theater and a block from the Gershwin Theater. Carnegie Hall, Central Park and Rockefeller Center are a short walk. The nearest subway station is one block away.

the location is good, the room is very small

if you are not so sensitive to the location and price, this hotel is not a good choice. A supermarket is just across the hotel. Hilton is just at the same corner. But the room is too small. I travelled with my daughter. My daughter said she was very much disappointed :( when she came into the room. We changed to another hotel two days later.

Charming room

Just did an overnite but was a quaint nicely decorated room for a great price. Only glitch was that one of the shampoo bottles had obviously been used and hadn't been replaced, but bathroom was otherwise clean. Parking was close and a deal for NYC. Would definitely stay there again.

Great at the price

Actually, great at an even higher price, if needed. (I just stayed there for $115/night the first week of January.) I've stayed here often, and you just can't beat the location, which is relatively quiet although steps from the corner of Broadway and 49th. Clean, quiet, small rooms. Friendly staff and a feeling of haven if you need a quick mid-day breather from your theatre district ramblings. A well-kept secret amongst my theater-loving friends who occasionally do a multi-day trip to the city.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

They have a generous noon check-out time, so zip around the corner to Pigalle (8th ave, same block) for a leisurely Euro bistro style breakfast or brunch before packing and departing.

Simple, can't beat price and location

There isn't anything super exciting about this hotel, however it is in an amazing location, for the most part kept clean, and you can't beat the price. If you're just going to NYC for a simple one or 2 night get away like I did and aren't to picky about where you sleep, I would highly recommend this hotel.

Location and convenience

You want a convenient location ? Well Mayfair is right around the corner from Times Square. What's better than that? The rooms are relatively small and that's expected for this area. However, it's a room to sleep -- not spend your entire vacation.

Great little place for the solo traveler

I love the Mayfair. It is located right in the middle of everything, within easy walking distance of Times Square and many theaters, and very close to the subway and buses. A great grocery store with a cafe is 1/2 block away and there are lots of restaurants, coffee shops, and delis within a few blocks. If you are a single traveler, as I am, the twin bed room is one of the best values in Manhattan. The room is tiny, but extremely well-appointed. You can just about reach everything from the bed. You get your own private bathroom - small, but everything you need. The room has more electrical outlets per square inch than any other hotel room I've ever stayed in - a real plus nowadays when we have to have places to recharge all our gadgets. There's not enough room to swing a cat, but that's irrelevant when all you need is a place to sleep comfortably at night without paying a fortune. It's clean, modern, and efficient, but with some old-style charm. The staff are all friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay there any time I can get a room when I go to NY.

Theater Weekend

Located in the heart of the theater district a few blocks from Times Square, this is perfect for theater goers or other activities in the area. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms are nice (and NYC small sized), and there is now a restaurant open on premises. I have stayed there a number of times over the past three years and they don't disappoint. A small elevator serves all 7 floors and the rooms feature flat screen TVs, hair dryers, and irons.
