The famous architects Mergatroyd and Ogden built the Jolly Hotel Madison Towers in 1923; it is a rare example of "Italianate" style still in existence in Manhattan. In 1991 the largest Italian Hotel chain "Jolly Hotels" purchased it. Recently described by the New York Times as a charming business boutique hotel, it is conveniently located in midtown Manhattan on 38th street between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue. All the rooms offer a unique, relaxing and sophisticated European ambiance together with the latest up to date technology.

Good location, needs a makeover

I was in NY for only one night to attend an event. Pros: This hotel was relatively inexpensive (I paid about $230) and had a good location at Madison and 38th. Plenty of restaurants, close to shopping and tourist places like the Empire State Bldg. The place is a bit run down. Walls in the lobby need a fresh coat of paint and upholstery on furniture was ripped and dirty. Furniture in my room was quite old and worn, as was the carpet, bedspread, and worst of all, the noisey old air conditioner. On the up side, the linens were clean and nice, and the bathroom had been recently remodeled with nice marble tile, etc. Front desk staff were friendly and attentive. However, I think there are probably nicer hotels around for the money.

Average, Little out of the way

It's just a room to sleep and shower. Very small and a little farther uptown-west. If you stay M-Wednesday its ok for $225/night. Otherwise - no. Lot's of Italian's stay here as well, nice espresso shop next door.

Old but OK

The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was clean and the bed was good, but the carpet and curtains were pretty "tired". We were on the 12th floor and had lots of street noise (sirens, horns, trucks) but I guess that's just NYC.

The hotel offers a breakfast buffet for $22 per person. We got bananas, coffee, and muffins from a bodega around the corner on Madison Ave.

Good price, excellent location!

Took a while for the concierge to get to me since there was only one at the time and he was handling somebody else. Room was small but we only stayed one night and it was just me and my significant other. Cleanliness was excellent and the location...couldn't get any better. TV could use a little updating if you just wanna relax because it's not flat screen and that TV was going. Definitively would like to return!

Moonstruck right across the street is an excellent little breakfast place to have your Belgium waffles, the hotel wanted to charge us $22 per person for a buffet, no thanks

Not bad

Close to the good stuff, sparse room, no ice or coffee maker, but hey, good enough.

New York

Excellent location, everything at hand. Felt safe at all times, but did in the whole of the city. Plenty of places to eat or grab a coffee near by, nothing in the hotel, not even a kettle in the room.

Thanksgiving getaway

The room was small but nice. just didn't have that clean, santized feel. Bathroom was updated. (Didnt like that there wasn't a door on the shower either-1/4 piece of glass, doesnt count ) Great location, just a few blocks from all the action-- times square, empire state building, rockafeller. The staff was very nice as well. I would consider staying here again.
