convenient, comfortable, quiet and elegant

This was our first stay at the Barclay and I booked it rather late so was very pleasantly surprised at how nice it was for the price. The room was clean, the bed very comfortable, and it was quiet. The TV, shower, etc. were all up-to-date and worked well. No long waits for elevators, and staff were helpful and friendly when asked. The city maps available at the concierge desk made navigating city transportation a breeze. I would definitely return.

Very poor example of an intercontinental

I stay at many hotels (including Intercontinentals around the world) and his hotel disappoints in many ways. I was promised a VIP reception and package & also a room upgrade (I am also a IHG Gold member) but from the moment I checked in, everything was very poor. The staff attitude was very arrogant and condescending and I felt extremely unwelcome. The room was tiny, poorly furnished, tired and in need of updating. The bathroom was barely big enough to stand in and was quite unclean in many areas (hair & dust behind toilet, door and under sink). I waited nearly 2 hours for luggage and some packages to come to my room - in the end I had to go done and bring them myself. I tried calling the 'instant service' on the phone several times and they either never answered, transferred me to another never answered extension or just left me waiting. Unacceptable in a so called ''upmarket' hotel, never mind an intercontinental. IIHG please note: there is no club lounge and breakfast for one at $40 plus is outrageous. Try the 2 restaurants 50 feet away for much better service and quality and cheaper price. I do not recommend this hotel in any way.

Paper Thin Walls

We heard the couple next door going at it all night. We thought that for $300 a night we'd have better sound proofing but no.

Great stay

We stayed at the Intercontinental Barclay at mid town east. It was close to Times Square and we walked to Central Park, Rockefeller Center, the theater district, shopping on 5th avenue. The staff was helpful with suggestions on restaurants. We would stay here again.

Great vacation value!!!

Great location close to Grand Central Station and subways, walk to 5th Ave, cozy diners within 2 blocks, Starbucks across the street, the Concierge Domenic is the go to guy, other staff also very professional an courteous. There is no vending machine, but gift shop is open until 11pm. Bad: I woke up with back pain every morning for a week because the mattress was too worn out. It sinks in the middle and leans to the left. The doormen sure can whistle for taxi because I hear them loud an clear from 10 floors up and from 7am to 11pm. We got free wifi internet for being IHG members. Print boarding pass for free at the business center downstairs. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend.

Great location for Broadway and the UN

This property is a classic that has been well preserved and renewed. With one small oddity...unlike most hotels with almost instant hot water, this shower can take a few minutes to warm up. The bed was the most comfortable we have experienced. The staff was helpful and on top of any request. Ask for a room on the back side of the hotel to avoid the worst of the street noise. During the evening rush to dinner and the theatre, rely on the doormen to get you a cab rather than wandering around the street trying to flag one down. It may take some time to get a cab, but let the doorman get it--and then tip him. Or, ask them to flag a "black car" and negotiate a price with the perfectly legal limo driver and you will probably be on your way more quickly for just a few dollars more than a yellow cab.

Unless you really feel like paying through the nose for your morning bagel or eggs and bacon, go out the front door of the hotel, turn left, turn right at the corner and have breakfast cooked to order at the deli.
