Rooms are LOUD - you will not be able to sleep

Don't plan on getting any sleep if your room faces either 11th Ave. or 48th st. There is just not enough (or any) insulation between the inside of the room and the outside world. I don't mind city noise but this was ridiculous. The noise starts at about 10pm and goes until the sun comes up. 11th and 48th is a horrible neighborhood at night. If you enjoy hearing the following noise all night, then this hotel is for you: Loud cars blasting their stereos, trucks flying down 11th Ave., the clip clop of horses from the horse and buggy stable on 48th St., a tour bus staging area also on 48th St., endless police sirens, drunk people arguing and then fighting and more. It would have been quieter to sleep in the center of Grand Central Station. When I told the manager about the noise, he said that he's heard it before and the way to avoid this was to pay a higher price for a higher level floor. I'd like to think that the $300 a night I spent included a quiet nights sleep, but I guess you have to pay extra for that.

A Little Noisy - Great view from the top

Ink 48's staff was quite courteous and much appreciated. We enjoyed the wine hour and excellent city view from the lounge! A bit of street noise from our third floor room.

Overrated

I was there for Valentine's Day weekend with my spouse and although the hotel is aesthetically pleasing. When we arrived in our room the cable on the television didn't work and this was not the only occurrence of this during our stay. There were lots of lights in the room that also did not work during our stay. The first night we were there we called the concierge service and requested ice that took thirty minutes and two phone calls to get to our room. This didn't compare very well to other Kimpton Hotels around the country that I have stayed i.

Birthday in NYC

I have never had a poor stay at a Kimpton, so when I was booking my birthday weekend in NYC, I knew I had to stay at one. As usual, the lobby was gorgeous and the staff was very friendly. But what I was MOST excited about (the "suite with a view" @ Ink48 that I had splurged on) was very disappointing. The pictures of "The Hudson Suite" (on the website) included wall-to-wall views of the city, and when we arrived to the room, there was one tiny window at the end, with a view of a car dealership and rooftop. I had purchased this suite not because we needed all that space, but because the views looked glorious. I was shattered.Between the hotel let-down and the nightmare we had with the SuperShuttle ([...] that included us being screamed-at and threatened by the driver...who went to the wrong hotel and ended up driving us around NYC for 2hrs before we reached our destination)[...]

Good service but not the quietest

Overall the hotel was as advertised; clean, modern and the service was good. Everyone was friendly but the room we got was on a low level and just loud. When asked about adding my Kimpton rewards number, the front desk promptly explained they did not honor them for 3rd party reservations. This i can understand but overall this just gave me the impression reservations through 3rd parties are considered second tier. This played out in the room we got which was on a low level and next to the elevator.

Great NYE Celebration

I took my family to NY to celebrate NYE 2013. Ink48 is a nice hotel, great decor, and with friendly enough staff. They accommodated my needs for a baby crib and got me a very good baby sitter service. The reasons behind my lower scores are: 1. I contacted the concierge before my arrival to do some prep work for my one week stay. Despite my request to work things via email, he insisted in arranging things via phone. I am not a native English speaking person and, consequently, I prefer writing and reading than talking through the phone. I explained this to the concierge but he insisted in using the phone. I needed to be a bit persistent before I was able to "convince" him to use email as our communication channel. 2. In a couple of occasions I needed I remind the cleaning lady to bring enough clean towels. 3. About the location, although within walking distance from most major attractions, the surrounding establishments are not the best looking. A couple of car repair shops, gas station, and a couple of dark streets. Do not get me wrong, I would not be at all against the idea of staying there again... I would evaluate other alternatives before doing so though.

Great for a getaway

Went here on a Tuesday night as a getaway for my girlfriend's birthday. I needed to check in a little early, and the staff was able to accommodate my request. Our room was on the second floor down the hall which and was very roomy. The bathroom was spacious, clean, and my girlfriend enjoyed her bath in the nice deep tub. Hailing a cab in front of the hotel was quick and easy, and it took us to a nice Cuban restaurant in minutes! The only downside would have to be the valet parking... at $65 it was very pricey. Especially when you can park 2 blocks away for half the cost.
