Canine enthusiasts should plan a visit to coincide with the Westminster Dog Show, an annual event where dogs are put through their paces at nearby Madison Square Garden. Even better, the hotel itself is dog-friendly and there are no size restrictions, although there is an additional fee for your pet to stay. Make sure you check with the front desk before bringing along your furry friend.

Not worth the price

My room was so gross, smear on wall, wet bathroom floor, and on top of it... Smelly. It smelled and looked old, dingy, and moldy. The water in shower would go from cold to scaulding randomly and the handles were hard to turn. There were holes in the wall where possibly decorations were. The lighting was so dim that I felt like I was in a dungeon. The Internet was soooooo slow and frustrating. I called twice for more pillows and waited a hour . It's not worth the price!!!

A Venerable Hotel

Train wreck or Godsend? This ancient hotel is a bit of both. When I got in at 2 A.M. from Liberty in Newark via NJ transit the staff could not have been nicer and gave me a great room. The next day there were long slow-moving lines, which the staff dealt with the best they could. No frills, just a decent room in a great location. It is right across the street from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden and just a few blocks from Broadway. All in all, a very good stay!

Clean where it matters, but don't expect too much

Earlier reviews varied wildly, but I needed a place to stay for two nights on less than a week's notice, so this is where I ended up. The hotel was clean where it matters (sheets, bathroom, etc), but a little dusty if you look too closely. Thin walls and it's a large hotel, so people were definitely up and around rather early. The building itself is definitely older - the walls were marked up, the bathroom had chipped floor boards, etc. BUT: it's in an amazing location and an amazing deal. The lobby is lovely and clean, and I had no issues with the staff. I was also only in town for two days and spent nearly all of that time out of the hotel. I would say set your expectations to a niceish private hostel room in any major European city and you'll be fine. If you come in expecting a suburban chain hotel or the Renaissance for $70 a night, you're going to be disappointed.

Great location!

This is my second time staying at this hotel, and I really love that it is right above Penn Station. Convenient, safe. Rooms are older, but the location is wonderful.

Great location

Not the fanciest hotel, it's older, and the room I got was a bit dark and depressing, but the location can't be beat!
