Stayed a week

Room was a bit small for two people, but nicely decorated and the bathroom spotless. Other reviews covered the $4.95 Wi-Fi charge, which should be included in the cost of the room. Although we had a private bathroom, it was next to the shared bath and heavy weekend use meant quite a bit of noise between door slamming and ir hammering in the pipes. Microwave and refrigerator were nitce to have as we could enjoy leftovers from the many good nearby resaturants.

Good base for exploring Manhattan

My wife and i have just returned from a long weekend break to explore New York. With us were are four children, 3 grown up (ages 26, 22,17) and our 11 year old son. We took three rooms and stayed for five nights. We paid for upgraded rooms, two double beds in each room. The rooms were clean and the hotel location excellent, just a few minutes walk to the subway making easy travel to all of manhattan. The area felt safe with plenty of local restaurants. Having now returned, we have no complaints and would stay in the same hotel if we did it all again.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

Take the open bus tour both uptown and downtown and do it all on day one. Then, with a feel of the place and good map, you can use the subway to visit everywhere you want to go.

Ok in big apple

Visited Natural History Museum and Columbia University. Quick overnight stay. Solid place. Nothing real special, but very decent. Though, they did not have my reservation. Worked it out with no major issues, though a bit disconcerting that logistics were not smooth.

$5 wi-fi? Lost one star.

Great location ( 96th street station right next to the door). Good and inexpensive restaurants around the area. The only thing I believe they should change as soon as possible. The payed Wi-fi. Nowadays having wi-fi is as important as soap or a micro-waves or a refrigerator (The room where I stayed had all of this for free althought I didn't use it).

First Rate but Room was Tiny

Hotel was clean and quiet. Room was tiny but clean and well kept. Only 1 elevator that was the slowest I have even seen and wait times on the 3 rd floor was usually over 5 minutes. Otherwise great place to stay.

Friendly staff, clean, good value

This hotel was a good value for its location on the Upper West Side. The room was small, but very clean. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly; if I needed to be in this area again, I would definitely stay at this hotel.

Great place

This was my second stay at the Hotel Newton; the first was about 4 years ago for business and that worked out well. This time I had my family (wife and 2 teenage kids) with me, all sharing a room. We were upgraded for free to a junior suite, and it was perfect for our needs. The room was clean, and the staff friendly. The elevator was a bit small and slow, but that's a minor point. The location was good, in terms of near the subway, and convenient given that some of the time we headed up to the Columbia U. area. I'd definitely go there again if I need to be in the area.
