Dining

Metro Grill
The Metro Grill serves lunch and dinner M-F, dinner only S-S. Our bar and cocktail lounge are open until 11:00pm Sun-Thur, and 12:am F-Sat.
Rooftop Bar
The roof terrace is open seasonally for our guests during most daytime hours. During the evenings, weather permitting, a bar that is also open to the public operates and while guests are certainly welcome, they need to make reservations with the restaurant for a table. On rare occasions the roof is booked as a party space and access can be limited or restricted during those periods (usually just a few hours per event).

Tough beginning.......

When I called in advance of arrival to ask for a room with two separate beds, the receptionist must have been having a bad day. She gave me a nasty reply about this being an reservation made through an online travel site so I'd have to take what I could get. Made me feel like a second class citizen and I hadn't even arrived yet! So upon arrival , I asked again for a room with two beds and was told that there weren't any. I went up to my assigned room which was the size of a postage stamp with a queen bed and the place reeked of bleach. Now I felt like a third class citizen. So I called down to the reception desk and asked for a room with a king bed and was told that for my online travel site reservation that this was not possible but one could be had for an additional upcharge. Which I paid to salvage the trip. The king room was very nice, a good size, quiet and with a nice bathroom. Similar experience with breakfast - the "included" breakfast was marginal but if you went to the attached bar through the lobby, you could get a decent breakfast which wasn't very expensive and made the start of the day much more pleasant. So all in all the hotel worked out for us, but I had to pay more to make comfortable.

Great Central Location

We were very pleased with the location of Hotel Metro. The subway stop is 34th St/Herald Square, which ties into just about everything. Saturday night we took a leisurely walk up Broadway to hustling and bustling Times Square. There are lots of good places to eat just steps away from the hotel. The hotel itself is a compact, art deco style property. Our room, a single, was also compact, but the bed was quite comfortable. We encountered a problem when our teenage daughter's lodging plans fell through on our second night and she needed to stay with us instead. No rollaway available, and 3 people in a double bed was cramped to say the least! Service was helpful. The doorman pointed out where we could find a vision center close by when we needed an emergency set of contacts. We did try to check in a couple hours early, which didn't work, but were able to check our bags, go out to eat and then check in.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Across the street is a very Irish Irish Pub--Brendan's--with very good food. I didn't hear a single American accent among any of the customers or staff--clearly a popular spot for folks from across the pond.

Very affordable

Hotel Metro was very affordable and close proximity to all major attractions(ie. eating, shopping, sightseeing..). Highly recommend reserving in advance type of room(ie. twin beds vs full size). Front desk not very accomodating.

Posh little gem in the City

Hotel Metro was a great find! Great central location, friendly staff, very, very clean. The Metro Grill restaurant was excellent. Ate dinner there every night. Rooms were smaller but was fine for one person. So quiet I couldn't tell I was in mid-town Manahttan. Would recommend to others.

Good stay for the money

Most of the desk staff were friendly except for one that may have been having a bad day. Room was on penthouse level, was not overly large but "comfy". Toilet had a problem so it ran/filled every 5 mins but shutting the door never heard it. Beds were comfortable, room was clean, on the same block as a subway entrance. Air conditioned rooms kept sleeping conditions nice. Breakfast had lots of options, was very good in a confortable seating area. Did not get requested wake-up call but in room alarm radio did the trick.

Great Value

The hotel was centrally located in midtown only a couple blocks from the Empire State Building. A subway stop was at the end of the block making it easy to get anywhere in Manhatten with 15 minutes.

Nice Hotel

I was impressed with my stay at Hotel Metro. The room was small but it was very clean. The complimentary continental breakfast was a pleasant surprise. Macy's is just a 1/2 block away. I was not sure what to expect from the hotel with the great rate I had received.....but Hotel Metro definately exceeded my expectation.

Nice hotel

Comfortable and clean. Fitness center was decent and smelled like rubber so I am assuming recently renovated. Elevators were being rejuvenated so wait times varied. Fairly quite (for New York) as it is not on a major street, but there was construction a couple doors down. Good pizza at a nearby pizza place (beside the Irish Pub) The attached restaurant was a little slow but tasty. Overall, a pleasant hotel.
