Dining

Metro Grill
The Metro Grill serves lunch and dinner M-F, dinner only S-S. Our bar and cocktail lounge are open until 11:00pm Sun-Thur, and 12:am F-Sat.
Rooftop Bar
The roof terrace is open seasonally for our guests during most daytime hours. During the evenings, weather permitting, a bar that is also open to the public operates and while guests are certainly welcome, they need to make reservations with the restaurant for a table. On rare occasions the roof is booked as a party space and access can be limited or restricted during those periods (usually just a few hours per event).

New York the right way

You can't beat this location. I visited there on Thankgiving day for 2 nights. It's located between the Macy's on 5th and the empire state building. Can walk to everything. It's also only a couple of blocks from the train station. You could not find a better deal. Any hotel that came close to this one was at least double, if not triple the price. The room was quite, clean and cozy. I have already recommended this hotel to many friends.

Better than I expected.

It's NY so you expect the rooms to be small. Mine was not the closet size you would expect. It was functional, clean and comfortable. The front desk was terrific. Good source of resteraunt recomendations. The roof top deck is very enjoyable. No bar service, just take your own drink up! The Rainbow deli across the street was a good source for bottled drinks, snacks, and quick cheap meals. The hotel bar was surprisingly pleasant. Lots of TV's, decent food and good drinks. The hotel location is perfect for anything you need to do in the city. It's not a fancy schmancy hotel - but who goes to NY to stay in the room. I'll definately stay there again.

Good Location, Small Elevators

Hotel Metro was very good. The room size was quite good for a New York hotel, the staff was friendly and the shower was great (i.e. good water pressure and lots of hot water).

A Place To Sleep

The staff was friendly, knowledable, and helpful. The lobby was small, clean and spartan. We were upgraded to a room on the second floor. It had a window. An intimate view of a roof: Assorted condensers and other mechanical eqipment. The noise from these items, however, was not a problem. Being on the second floor with many stories surrounding the courtyard view you could easily distinguish night from day. One was pitch black the other opaque. Thus, actual weather conditions could not be discerned, unless it was raining. The room was adequate, but in need of freshening. The bath was adequate with a tub shower, slippery bottom and no hand rails. Breakfast in the dining room off the lobby was quite nice: A large assortment of appropriate snack items, fruits, juices, coffee, etc. The eating environment was very nice. Conclusion: I would only stay again if nothing better were available. But, then, I am picky.

Convenient and friendly

I stayed at the Hotel Metro for a business trip because I needed a Midtown location. The staff was unusually friendly, and my room was clean and comfortable. Although most rooms in Manhattan are so noisy, this one was surprisingly quiet, and I was able to sleep -- a rare treat.

Great stay at great location

The rooms at the Hotel Metro aren't huge, but they're plenty big enough for two people who don't spend much time sitting around. There's a queen bed, a table with two chairs and a dresser/entertainment center. The room also has a safe in the closet and an ironing board and iron. One more suitcase stand would be nice, but it might make the room too crowded. The location of the hotel is wonderful, just a few blocks south of the theater district and a few blocks north of the Flatiron Building and Union Square--and squarely in the middle east-west, between Sixth and Broadway--so it's easy to get everywhere. The continental breakfast is great, with plenty of choices--bagels, muffins, pastries, toast, granola, yogurt and fruit--and even decent coffee! Staff is helpful and always available.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

1. Walk a few blocks west to Ninth Avenue, and you'll find all kinds of reasonably priced ethnic restaurants. And don't hesitate to stop and get food from the street vendors--it's fantastic. 2. Bryant Park is just a few blocks up Sixth Avenue, a lovely oasis that's a perfect place to people-watch.

We'll Be Back

This was our second stay at Hotel Metro, and we'll definitely stay there again. The location was great--very easy access to a subway entrance about half a block away, which made travelling around NYC simple. Excellent value for the money. Staff was helpful and friendly. Rooms are clean and quiet, though not luxurious. Our stay included breakfast each morning (self-serve bagels, yogurt, muffins, cereal, etc.), and plenty of food was stocked through the end of the serving time period. My only complaint was the service at the rooftop bar, which is open during the summer months. Signs posted at the bar say table service only and though we alerted the bartended to our arrival and he said he'd be right with us, we were ignored for 20 minutes before leaving. During that time, the bartender seemed to just be arranging items behind the bar, not waiting on anyone.
