A Place To Sleep

The staff was friendly, knowledable, and helpful. The lobby was small, clean and spartan. We were upgraded to a room on the second floor. It had a window. An intimate view of a roof: Assorted condensers and other mechanical eqipment. The noise from these items, however, was not a problem. Being on the second floor with many stories surrounding the courtyard view you could easily distinguish night from day. One was pitch black the other opaque. Thus, actual weather conditions could not be discerned, unless it was raining. The room was adequate, but in need of freshening. The bath was adequate with a tub shower, slippery bottom and no hand rails. Breakfast in the dining room off the lobby was quite nice: A large assortment of appropriate snack items, fruits, juices, coffee, etc. The eating environment was very nice. Conclusion: I would only stay again if nothing better were available. But, then, I am picky.

Convenient and friendly

I stayed at the Hotel Metro for a business trip because I needed a Midtown location. The staff was unusually friendly, and my room was clean and comfortable. Although most rooms in Manhattan are so noisy, this one was surprisingly quiet, and I was able to sleep -- a rare treat.

Great stay at great location

The rooms at the Hotel Metro aren't huge, but they're plenty big enough for two people who don't spend much time sitting around. There's a queen bed, a table with two chairs and a dresser/entertainment center. The room also has a safe in the closet and an ironing board and iron. One more suitcase stand would be nice, but it might make the room too crowded. The location of the hotel is wonderful, just a few blocks south of the theater district and a few blocks north of the Flatiron Building and Union Square--and squarely in the middle east-west, between Sixth and Broadway--so it's easy to get everywhere. The continental breakfast is great, with plenty of choices--bagels, muffins, pastries, toast, granola, yogurt and fruit--and even decent coffee! Staff is helpful and always available.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

1. Walk a few blocks west to Ninth Avenue, and you'll find all kinds of reasonably priced ethnic restaurants. And don't hesitate to stop and get food from the street vendors--it's fantastic. 2. Bryant Park is just a few blocks up Sixth Avenue, a lovely oasis that's a perfect place to people-watch.

We'll Be Back

This was our second stay at Hotel Metro, and we'll definitely stay there again. The location was great--very easy access to a subway entrance about half a block away, which made travelling around NYC simple. Excellent value for the money. Staff was helpful and friendly. Rooms are clean and quiet, though not luxurious. Our stay included breakfast each morning (self-serve bagels, yogurt, muffins, cereal, etc.), and plenty of food was stocked through the end of the serving time period. My only complaint was the service at the rooftop bar, which is open during the summer months. Signs posted at the bar say table service only and though we alerted the bartended to our arrival and he said he'd be right with us, we were ignored for 20 minutes before leaving. During that time, the bartender seemed to just be arranging items behind the bar, not waiting on anyone.

Great place to stay in mid-town Manhattan

The Hotel Metro was conveniently located, situated between 5th and 6th Avenues at 35th Street. You are within walking distance to many prime locations, including the Empire State Building (only 1 1/2 blocks away), Macy's, Madison Square Garden, the International Center of Photography, and much more. I couldn't have picked a better hotel for my first trip to NYC. Besides being centrally located, Hotel Metro had a great ambiance about it with the chic charm of a '50s or '60s hotel. The rooms were cozy and the hotel itself was clean and comfortable. Your stay at Hotel Metro includes many perks, too, such as complimentary breakfast, complimentary luggage storage for early check-in or late check-out, guest gym and roof deck/bar.

Clean, quiet, centrally located

Hotel Metro is just off the beaten tourist track in Manhattan so quiet, clean and convenient. Staff suggested the direction to head for taxi services throughout the metro area. Room was petite, but very comfy--completely enjoyed my 2 day solo stay. Had I been traveling with my husband, a queen or king room would be required....the full room perfect for one.

Hotel Metro is just west of 5th, so go further west for action, tourist attractions, etc. and go east for more mellow experiences and more upscale destinations in NYC.

Not worth the money

The hotel was rather expensive, but did not feel very friendly, and the amenities were lacking. It was the only hotel I have stayed in in a long time (other than bed-and-breakfasts) that did not have complementary coffee in the room, for example. (Coffee was available down in the lounge, but that is not the same.) There were hardly any electrical outlets in the room - and most of those were full of extension cords supporting hotel devices - I had a hard time charging my phone, Palm, and mp3 player. The elevators were being repaired, and only one was running, which made getting up and down very slow. Staff had obviously been directed by management not to speak to guests. If you tried to make casual conversation with one, they would smile nervously and avoid your eyes. Worst of all, the clock in my room was set an hour fast - which I didn't notice when I set the alarm, so it woke me up an hour early! If there was a way to reset that clock correctly, I couldn't find it!

Great Hotel Staff

My stay at the Hotel Metro was greatly enhanced by the care and concern of the staff. They were exceptionally friendly and would 'go the extra mile' on several occassions. Customer service is certainly a priority in this hotel. The rooms are small but functional. In reality, who goes to New York City to sit in their hotel room. Another positive point to this hotel is the location. It is a perfect location for getting to all venues and attractions. There was never an issue in getting a cab or access to the subway at the end of the street.

Elevator repair!

I have been to the Metro many times..Each time it seems to gets worse..The roof top deck has been closed for over two years..The elevator is still being renovated, which left it with just one working elevator and a service elevator. VERY BAD...If you are in a hurry and on a high floor you might as well forget it.. not sure I will go back again.
