small and depressing

The hotel room was the size of a closet. Very dark and unattractive. Beds were hard and the worst was that there was construction under my window and i was not warned about it before checking in. It was quite noisy and began early.

Hotel Metro NYC

Room was small, but to be expected in NYC. Room was very clean, bathroom spotless which pleased me, really liked the linens and bathroom toiletries provided. Only gripe was a/c unit. You could only put it on high or shut it off. Staff very helpful and roof top bar was a nice touch. I would stay here again.

Great value for the price.

Except for one of the four nights we were there, the hotel was very quiet, The hotel was convenient to the subways which made it easy to get to the theaters and other shopping areas.

A great deal in New York City!

My teen aged son and I just returned from a 4 day 3 night stay in New York. I was looking for a highly rated hotel that was reasonably priced and I found just that with Hotel Metro. The hotel is extremely convenient to the subway (35th Street/Herald Square stop) and is less than a block away. This hotel is only a block away from Macy's Herald Square which is a really great store. Hotel Metro is in between 5th and 6th Avenues and a short walk to Bryant Square and Broadway. This property is in "Korea Town" and we had an excellent Korean meal one evening. There are not many other good places to eat close to the hotel (just fast food). You need to hoof it or take a cab somewhere else in the city. No problem for us. The hotel itself is an art-deco type of boutique hotel. I found it to be tasteful, very clean, and quiet. Our room was small but we were only in it to sleep. The bedroom was comfortable, clean, and above all QUIET! I had not trouble sleeping. This could change, however, because a building is about to be constructed behind the hotel and that could make things noisy in the future. I hope not. Hotel Metro offers and adequate continental breakfast in the AM in a comfortable dining area off the main lobby. Coffee and tea are always available. Free WiFi in room. Safe in room. Bathroom small but well appointed and CLEAN. I have absolutely no complaints about my stay -- except that I wanted 2 beds and we only got one (queen). I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Hotel Metro is a find

Hotel Metro is a nice alternative to those giant Times Square behemoths. It's in a great location -- a half block from Macy's and Herald Square park. It's on a relatively quiet side street, W. 35th. If you take the train to Penn Station, it's a 5-minute walk to the hotel. The rooms are small, but everything works, so the square footage seems like a minor issue. If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Times Sq, this is a good alternative. One extra thing: the hotel offers a continental breakfast in a room with big couches and comfortable chairs, so you can have a relaxing breakfast prior to hitting the city.

Not as good as I expected

The Metro Hotel is a good small hotel. The room we had was very noisy primarily due to a fronting the street. Something to avoid. A better room location would have made a great difference.

Great stay

We stayed on the 12th floor, which was high enough to filter out most of the street noise. The rooms were clean and the housekeeping did a great job. The shower was large and comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The beds were comfortable--I slept great! I didn't try the fitness center, but I looked at it and it was beautiful and very clean. I did use the business center to print out my boarding pass, and it was everything I needed. Also, note that the rooftop has a fantastic view of the Empire State Building. I would stay at this hotel again and again.

There are a number of Korean restaurants nearby--probably 3 within 2 blocks. We had a great meal at one of them.
