Perfect for NYC/Times Square get-away!!!

Hotel Mela was perfect for our weekend get-away to NYC. We wanted something close enough to be in the action, but not be overwhelmed by the people. The Hotel Mela was 1 block off the main Times Square intersection. It was perfectly centrally located to walk to all the local attractions, or catch a bus/cab/subway to get away! Could walk to Times Square, Broadway, Central Park, Grand Central Station, Macy's, etc... Room was small, but what room isn't in NYC. Actually, it was bigger than I expected. Room was relatively clean and had modern feel. While I was not blown away by the hotel, it was MORE THAN ADEQUATE for what we were looking for!!! Great choice!!!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Save money in NYC if you're going to sight-see. We bought a 48 hour pass for a tour bus. Not only did it give us guided tours of the city, but it also took us wherever we wanted to go (ie. Statue of Liberty). $50 per person for the 48 hour pass. Why more cost effective than cabbing it all weekend. There are people EVERYWHERE in Times Square selling passes.

Cozy, Friendly, and Charming

My husband and I took this trip to New York to start celebrating the Christmas Season. New York is amazing during this time with it's grand decorations and holiday spirit. We wanted a smaller boutique hotel with a cozier feel to it. We were NOT disappointed. We had originally booked a basic room, but had been upgraded to a complimentary bigger room when we called prior to arrival to see if this was at all possible; the staff had no hesitation in upgrading us. It was such a pleasure to stay at a hotel where the staff is so very gracious, extremely friendly, welcoming and more than helpful. We entered a lovely very clean room to find a personal handwritten note welcoming us with water and a snack, it was very sweet and appreciated. Our room was on the 11th floor, away from the main street, so it was nice and quiet. The room was always well taken care of, the cleaning staff always pleasant and delightful, never missed a beat to wish you a good morning and/or good day. The staff in general was always welcoming, offering you their name with a smile adding that if we needed anything during our stay, do not hesitate to ask. We needed to find a particular store to purchase something for our daughter; it was difficult to find the location via the web, but one very kind staff member spent a lot of time and was determined to help meet our need in finding this store -- and he did, all with a smile! In the lobby there was always complimentary hot apple cider awaiting, which was such a treat to come into from out of the cold weather. The location was perfectly located so you could easily reach all the major sites by walking or metro. Times Square was just at the end of the block; Central Park, Broadway shows, major shopping, all within walking distance. Great places to eat all around you. When we needed a late check out, the staff was more than happy to accomodate. We would highly recommend this hotel if you prefer a cozy/friendly experience in a great location. We truly thank the staff at the Mela Hotel for such a lovely experience.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Take the metro to the Brooklyn Bridge (or walk), and take the walk over the bridge into Brooklyn and go to the famous Grimaldi's Pizzeria -- the BEST, you won't be disappointed. Also, can't even say enough about the play Wicked -- extremely entertaining and fun. Take a walk through Central Park, it's beautiful and charming, you can easily spend a day there. There are so many sites to see, stores to shop at, and amazing places to eat. Research before you go so you'll get the most out of your experience. It's a City that does not disappoint!

quite, clean and is right next to ....

The best thing of Hotel Mela is its location it is near every thing you want (one block from Theaters, Time square, ...). If the weather is good you can walk from this hotel even to central park and museums. The room is small but clean and comfortable and staffs are very friendly. We were there in thanksgiving so the outside was cold especially for us who came from south, we had to come back to hotel every 4 hours to warm up, and because the hotel was right next to every where we wanted to go it was very good for us.

Good enough

I arrived at 1 pm. The front desk couldn't find my reservation when I arrived. I needed to pull up my confirmation number, and even then they couldn't find it, because it hadn't yet been manually entered into their system. They couldn't give me a room then, since check in time was 3 pm. The room was small but comfortable, but there was no place to work--no desk, no flat surface to open my computer, no chair, so I had to sit in bed with my computer on my lap. There is a small business center downstairs, as well as a tiny lobby where I could have worked instead, and did later on. Location is first rate. Staff was friendly. Price was right.

Great Hotel in Theater District

We walked just about everywhere except to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Hotel's in a great location, across from the Belasco Theater. Staff was very friendly & helpful. Liked presence of ATM on site & PC to print boarding pass. Hot cider in lobby is nice touch, as are apples for the taking.

Fantastic Weekend NYC Get-away

Booked flight and hotel package via [...] the night before. When we checked in the hotel had my wife and I in a room with two twin beds even though our confirmation had deluxe queen or king bed. The hotel fortunately fixed the issue and put us in a room with a queen bed. I'm glad that I had the print out of the confirmation with room selection. The staff was super helpful; rooms are perfect size for two adults on a weekend adventure. The rooms were clean and tidy. The hotel location is close to everything you need - Times Square, subway station, and Central Park. I'd highly recommend staying here and will keep this spot on my list for my next NYC trip.

Let Down[...] Hotel Mela

[...].Relating to Hotel Mela, it was clean and the service was good. It had a great location just a block away from Times Square. Walking distance to good food, theater, night life, and shopping. However, the Hotel room I booked was classified as "Premier". When I arrived I was surprised to see the smallest room I have ever stayed in. It literally only had room to walk around the bed. No desk, couch, chair, table, anything. Just a queen bed with room to walk around it barely. It was clean and neat, but very small. Then I parked my own SUV. They had told me on the phone that Va lay parking was an extra $10.00 so it was $40.00 per night for an SUV if I parked it and $50.00 if they did. Well I parked it myself and was still charged $50.00 per night. So all-in-all is wasn't a bad experience, just some unexpected hassles I didn't need. If you are traveling on business and need a desk this wouldn't be the room.
