not a five star hotel...
The location is terrific. The reputation and look of the hotel put expectations pretty high. The staff at front desk are disorganized and some were to cool for their own good. The consierge desk always seemed stressed out and for a five star boutique in the middle of meat packing had very little clout. The rooms were noisy, the bed average comfort and the toiletries were supermarket quality. The best was that additional $650 I was mistakenly charged when I got home for what turned out to be an $11 bag of pretzles from the mini bar. Ridiculous....

TERRIBLE!
Very noisy and unhelpful staff. Its kind of an "oh well, thats the way it goes kind of attitude". The rooms aren't cheap and we were expecting a little more. We stay in lots of boutique hotels some less expensive, like the Hudson and some much more like the Delano. We know what to expect. We were there on business, but wanted a hotel in a great area to eat and in walking distance of great shopping. We were realized our neighbors that were obviously packed into the room with many guests weren't going to quiet down anytime soon at 10pm when we heard them singing "happy birthday to you". We called downstairs to the front desk who told us we could move to another room. But, WE had to be inconvenienced to move and not the other way around. We got out of bed, packed up everything and go to another floor only to have the same issue. There was sooo much partying in the hotel and noise outside. It was a really cold night, so odd to hear there was outside noise, but that's really out of the hotels control. It was more frustrating to feel like we were sleeping beside a night club. The rooms also could use a little cleaning and the decor in the lobby and rooms is less than interesting. Not at all impressive for the kind of press this hotel gets. NOT worth the money at all!

Great Spot & Hospitality
It was great from the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out. The staff was always available and helpful. Every time we walked in, they called the elevator for us and always greeted us with a smile. We'll definitely stay there again. It was off the beaten path so you felt some privacy away from all the New Yorkers, but if you wanted them, they were within walking distance.

Fabulous Hotel in a Great Location
Very friendly, professional and courteous staff. Great location and amenities. Reception great - we were upgraded on a rrival as we were staying for a week, so were given a biger room - was very much appreciated and showed that the hotel cared about their guests and their comfort. Did not realise that hotel guests could visit the spa for free until the day before we left. It is lovely, very relaxing. Classes are also free for those who would like to participate. The only downside is that there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, and as I like hot water first thing in the morning and tea in the afternoon (and my boyfriend likes coffee) this was a bummer - especially as it worked out as $17 to order one pot of tea OR coffee, when you included the $5 room service charge and the tax on top of the cost. This would be my only complaint to an otherwise fantastic hotel and stay.

If you like thai food, there is the most fantastic restaurant called 'Spice Market' pretty much oppostie the hotel, which is an old warehose that has been converted into a very funky restaurant on 2 levels. We went on a Friday night, and they had a DJ in the corner downstairs which was a nice touch - good music - not too loud either, and the food was FANTASTIC - big big portions, and very reasonably priced as well - especially for New York!

The hotel was a bit overated but still a good bargin. The housekeeping staff were wonderful but the concierge was a little less than friendly. Rooms are attractive and clean and not too cramped. Great location if you want to be downtown! Over all a good expereiance

OK stay
The Hotel Gansevoort is OK. Very trendy, but the staff isn't very accommodating. I was there for 1 night on business and my bf called to request that a fruit basket be sent to my room - he was transferred to various people who worked there that did not know who would handle, then finally he was told by the concierge that the only way they could do it would be if he faxed in his request - it was a Sunday and he did not have access to a fax machine so it didn't happen. I really don't see how an e-mail wouldn't have sufficed, but whatevs - they lost the business. So much for romantic surprises! Also, the noise from the street was awful - I woke up multiple times to cars honking in the middle of the night! I was on the 8th floor, so not sure why this was an issue. I have stayed here once before on business and had the room service breakfast, which is outrageously expensive - I think it was something like $45 for eggs florentine and orange juice for 1 person - I didn't care as much because the company was paying for it, but I would never spend that normally. Bed was nice...TV is pretty small. I liked the blackout electric shades. I would stay here again because it's the closest hotel to my office and much better than The Standard!

Gansevoort NYC
We stayed at the Gansevoort Hotel during NYC fashion week and had a great time. The hotet roof deck bar was fun and overall made for an exciting time in NYC. Drinks were very pricey but that's typical when you are in the very upscale meatpacking district. The room was very sheet and the high threadcount sheets made for a great night stay.
