Great location, good value.
Great location, good value. Rooms are adequate, clean. Mattress was firm, bedspread a little worn. Staff were very friendly and attentive. I would stay there again.

Great Manhatten location
The hotel was clean, safe, and comfortable. Probably wouldn't meet the expectations of many American travelers, but reminded me a lot of traveling in Europe. The rooms are walk-up, small, no view. There is an elevator and an elevator attendant if you have a lot of luggage. They will hold your luggage for free before and after check-in. There was a coffee-pot and a teapot in the room, but no coffee, tea or place to plug in. TV reception and internet were very good and free. Having said all this, the staff was friendly and helpful, the room was quiet, the location was stellar, and the price was very good, under 200 a night in a lively part of Manhatten where rents go for 4K a month for one bedrooms. We had a great time and will definitely stay here again.

Short walk from hotel
Be sure to make reservations for dinner at the French restaurant started by Anthony Bourdain, about a block away from the hotel. It gets busy, even early on a weekday (not surprising, since everything was stellar.)

perfect location in downtown New York City
I wrote a previous review with a recommendation to make reservations for dinner at the nearby restaurant that Anthony Bourdain started. My traveling companion now tells me that she's not sure it was started by Anthony Bourdain, but the name of the restaurant is Les Halles. Just ask the hotel staff. They were very knowledgeable about local restaurants, transportation, etc.

Excellent Old-School Property!
This is an old-school budget friendly hotel, with great charm and character. Even down to the manually operated elevator and in-room fixtures, this property exceeded our expectations. The staff was friendly, and very helpful. It is located right off Park ave, and within a block of the MTA. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Well worth it
Not only is it near two subway lines, it's right by a Starbucks and wonderful deli with all foods imaginable hot and cold. The rooms are simple, just a place to sleep not lounge around in the room. Reminded me of an old European hotel, small but efficient. The linens aren't new but they're clean. The place was built as a bachelors apartment bldg. I do recommend paying extra for a private bathroom. The staff if very friendly.

Bread and Butter across the street. We could have eaten every meal there. Hot, cold and packaged food. Much variety especially during the week.

Hit All the Bases
The location was in walking distance of many sites and a block from the subway. Les Halles Bistro was on the next block--terrific French fare. Take out food across the street and a drugstore was a block away. The staff were welcoming and helpful. We loved the old architecture. Good value overall. We'll be back.

Great value --- close location --- but on WEST 29th
I scheduled an impromptu last-minute trip to Broadway in NYC and found this quaint quiet hotel to be very economical, convenient, and accomodating. For the price with the shared bathroom it was well worth it, particularly for a brief overnight stay. The Bread and Butter deli/shop right across the street which is open 24 hours makes it a wonderful location. Only a block or so away is a bevy of fabulous Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi food I would definitely repeat a short NYC stay in this hotel with free wifi.

Great character!
This hotel has great character. There is a piano in the lounge and an antique elevator complete with chandelier and copper ceiling. I stayed in a suite (private bathroom) that had pale pink and black tile that remains in many NYC apartments. If you find old stuff charming, you will like this hotel, if you are looking for something chic and modern this probably isn't the place for you. The staff was courteous and the rooms were clean. My only complaint was our room was very toasty and the rooms did not appear to have individual climate control, so I opened a window... problem solved! This hotel has a great location in a bustling neighborhood and right on a subway stop. Perfect for a young couple more interested in spending our money on eating rather than sleeping.

Good location bad room
Very good location in Manhattan. One block away from the subway station. The restroom sucks. The sheets are not that clean and tidy. Staff is very friendly. You know you can expect no more with this price in such a good location.

Great place.
We opted out of the attached bathroom which for the most part we hated our decision. Unfortunately for us we were on the 7th floor and the closest bathroom was four flights below us. However most of the time other guests were using it so we had to go down to the first floor to use the bathroom. It was super close to everything though, especially the subway and we could easily walk to Times Square and other iconic places closely. The room was clean but slightly on the small side but it wasnt a big deal for us. The elevator is hand operated so it made us feel like an inconvenience sometimes but if you dont mind having someone take you up and down flights it wont bother you. The WiFi was great which was a surprise to us and the staff were wonderful. Overall it was in a great location and definitely worth it.
