Not bad...
Cheap, quiet and clean. Small room, small bed and a steam pipe running though my bathroom. Lame there's no wifi or even coffee-maker in the room. Good location regardless.

Recommended for the price
Hotel Grand Union was walking distance from Times Square and a lot cheaper than other hotels. The room was tiny, but if you're taking a short vacation most likely you won't be staying in your room much. The hotel was really close to the subway and to several banks, which was very convenient. Also, there are a lot of Korean restaurants around that area. From my experience, all of them had awesome food. Also, there's a small diner next to the lobby where I would get a morning coffee and croissant for very cheap. The coffee was only 75 cents! Not bad for New York.

Short walk from hotel
The subway station close to the hotel goes directly to Chinatown. Lots of shopping around on 34th Street. Also, Macy's and Manhattan mall are a few blocks away on Broadway.
