Flatotel at Times Square

Location was excellent, close to theatre district. Given by mistake a smoking room, then was changed to room with problem with air conditioning. Front end supervisor finally got us a nice room. Lobby nothing to write home about. Front End Superviser very helpful.

I recently stayed at the Flatotel, and while it isn't a bad hotel, it wasn't great- and DEFINITELY not 4-star.A decent sized boutique-ish hotel, it's run more like a small chain hotel with boutique "looks" - i.e. contemporary furniture, not a lot of frou-frou, etc. How they got the four stars on travel sites, however, is beyond me.A continental breakfast was an empty bowl of fruit (all gone but two pieces, both mornings I tried), a few TINY pastries, and bagels. There were no plates (another customer actually went into the kitchen to grab a stack for others), they were out of coffee (in the self-serve pots) for more than 20 minutes, and on the third day there was nowhere to sit, and although the lobby has a bar and no one was there, the staff didn't want me to grab a coffee and bagel and eat it there.On to rooms... the first I was given was about 85-degrees, although the AC was full blast. It also had no wifi signal (the company advertises being "free wifi throughout the hotel"), and when I called down I was told "someone will bring you a cable." "Umm... I have a Macbook Air, it doesn't have ethernet; how about if the wifi works as promised?" Long story short, they moved me to another (thankfully cooler) room. An "accessible" room, which was fine, albeit a bit odd, with everything so low and very wide doors...On the good side, the woman ([...], I believe) who authorized the room swap was VERY nice, as was the concierge and about half of the people I talked to at the front. (The others weren't bad, just had typical NY and/or gay attitude- and don't start screaming, I'm gay myself.) Overall the hotel could desperately use some updates; things just seemed a bit "gray" and worn down. They also don't offer 24-hour room service (again, 4-stars???), nor did they offer me any suggestions of nearby restos or menus. There was nothing in my mini bar - in fact it was turned off - and the tiny closet of a store in the lobby closes early. For the price - which wasn't bad, but also not the cheapest - I could have definitely found something better in the same area. Perhaps not as "boutique," but...3-star, maybe. Not horrible but would go with another brand next time.

Central mid-town location. I liked that breakfast was included. I like that they had the Financial TImes available for free. THe gym was opened til midnight.

We went to New York for sightseeing and the location of the hotel was just amazing. Only a few minutes walk to Time Square, Chrysler Building, Radio City and many others. The hotel staff was very friendly and responded to request very quick. The room was huge, the bed comfy and everything was very clean.

I traveled on business and the hotel was in a great location. I was able to walk most places, the subway was within blocks. I was also upgraded from a hotel room to an apartment which was extremely accomodating and when I entered the rooms were very spacious - kitchen, dining room, bedroom, walk-in closets, 1.5 bathrooms, large bedroom. Although the hotel was a little older, it was a very pleasant stay.

The service was good, they open the front door at you,they concern about how you feel.Was clean place, we really enjoy it.

The first room was horrible but they upgraded us at no extra cost. The second room was fantastic!

Went to Times square on the eve of Memorial day. Missing - no coffee pot in room. The hotel is a former highrise condo remodeled for a hotel. The rooms are plain, clean, ample.
