Spacious, spartan accomodations
We got to the hotel 45 minutes before the check in time and were told come back in 1 hour. Fair enough. So we went out and did some stuff and got back at 6:15pm, only to be told our room was not ready yet. Since we had a 7pm dinner reservation, that was not acceptable. Finally, after about 15 minute wait and some complaining, we were allowed to check in. The room and hallways were shabby, but the room was spacious and the bed comfortable. The TV remote didn't work, but since we were only staying one night it wasn't worth the effort of trying to get it fixed. Since we had had a previous problem with this hotel not honoring a reservation a couple of years ago, I doubt we will ever consider it again.

Flatotel delight
From the moment we arrived staff made us feel like guests. Nothing was too much bother. The hotel was clean and very comfortable. The location was excellent being near everything but in a quieter street. I would go back and would have no hesitation in recommending to a friend.

Fun vacation for a traveling couple
The Flatotel was a low key, no drama, comfortable stay for our 5 night vacation in NYC. The hotel is a short walk from Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Central Park. It is also super close to several subway lines, so the location was perfect for our stay. The room was clean, staff friendly, nice complimentary breakfast, hot showers, and heater worked great. It met our standards, and our budget! I would recommend this place to a friend.

Walk to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Central Park. Short subway ride to all the NYC attractions. I would recommend getting a MetroCard - 7 day pass $29. Definitely worth it!

It's a nice 3* star hotel, but definitely not 4!
This hotel can't be sold and purchased as a 4 star hotel. They have room service only before 10 am!!!After that you even can't order a cup of tea!!!!!There is just no room service during the day!!!!!!And if you get there ill or need water asap there is no chance that you get one. Wouldn't recommend to stay there. There are many other better options for approximately the same price!!

Time for revamp
I was happy to be in this good location but this hotel needs a revamp. A shower that drizzels water is annoying and seeing clip toe nails in the carpet and waiting forever for a lift will have me looking at another hotel next time.

Best value for location
The hotel was in such a great location. It was a short walk to the theaters, Time Square and Rockefeller Center among other must see locations. Our room was clean, but the mattress was very hard and the secondary lock on the door was broke and no hair dryer in the room (what is up with that). The lobby is a cocktail lounge with the reception desk in the corner...great ambience at night. The front desk staff were very polite and helpful. The second shift porters and front door staff were rude, but day shift was great. Recommend if you are like us and only need to sleep because you are out in the city most of the time and don't need a ton of hotel amenities.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
Have dessert at Serendipity3 on the east side after the theater. Short cab ride from Broadway theaters. Decor is so much fun and the ice cream and dessert menu is amazing. Not a bargain, but worth it. Featured in George Clooney/Michelle Pfeiffer movie, "One Fine Day".

Good location/smelly room
Our vents smelled like someone was smoking right next door the whole time, even after we complained to the staff. It was supposed to be non-smoking, but we had to keep the bathroom closed because it was so strong and spent as little time in the bathroom that we could. The fitness room had a great view, but the only bike available was broken. Otherwise it was a great place, nice people and great location.

great location - room needs attention
Over all this hotel was fine, but there were some concerns. The couch was a solid light color, and had very evident stains. We had to ask several times for a blanket or throw to cover it just to feel comfortable sitting on it. Other than that, room was clean. Amenities were supposed to include a coffee pot, again, we had to ask twice before they brought us one, and then they just brought decaf coffee. Also had to ask for wash cloths which they forgot to leave for us. Bathroom was large and very nice. Staff was overall friendly, although my husband's room key did not work, and they gave him a hastle about replacing it!

Shopping tip:
Long walk from hotel
Don't shop in times square - the stores - like The Disney Store, Starbuck's are just too crowded. Just a few blocks away, often the same stores are much easier to navigate.
