Good clean hotel
This hotel was great it is a Marriott after all. The rooms were big enough for 4 to move around in. The whole hotel smells clean everywhere. Need room security key to run elevator so very safe. Wish the front desk would have told us about the sky bar upstairs would have liked to go there as the 1st floor bar is small & boring. The location wasn't bad not as close to Times Square as I thought but just a quick walk. Traveled w/family & kids who are young adults. All had a great time! I would definitely stay here again.

Time-saving tip:
Not Applicable
Have an idea where you want to go & what to see. Get specific addresses for those locations & then go. There's so much to see & it's big so it's hard to find things on your own. Cab drivers need specific addresses

Nice but crowded
The hotel is not cheap, and the rooms are small but this is to be expected in NYC. Location is ideal, just by Port Authority Bus Terminal, which allows very easy airport access, and a few feet away from Times Square. Service was very neat, but the breakfast room is way too small. We had to wait for a table to get free each morning.

Weekend in New York
Weekend was very enjoyable. We were able to do and see what we wanted to. All of the staff at the Fairfield were very friendly and helpful when questions were asked. Location was good because we were able to walk to a lot of places. Also there were a number of good restaurants only a few blocks away. One minor negative was that the rooftop lounge was not yet opened and there was no other lounge in the hotel. Overall everything went smoothly!

A New York Hotel at it's best!
The staff was very friendly, courteous and helpful. THe room was small, especially for 4 women, but spotless and well appointed. Will stay there again without question.

We a great location to get back after the Ball Dropped on New Years Eve. But it is right across the street from the bus terminal.. Did not feel safe at night.

Good Location, Tiny Rooms, No Restaurant
We were in NYC for the weekend, the hotel did a good job for what we needed. We didn't spend much time in the room, so the relatively small size wasn't an issue. The hotel looks new, but it was obviously jammed into the space that it was given. Almost claustrophobic in the hallways and breakfast area. Very good value if you're just going for the weekend. Helpful staff.

Christmas 09
My family and I went for Christmas this year and had a great time. We took the bus from the airport to the Port Authority Bus Terminal and were able to walk to the hotel. We were allowed early check in (thank goodness) and were able to enjoy the complimentary continental breakfast. Definitely the best free breakfast we've had at a hotel. Lots of food and a nice selection. The rooms were small compared to other hotels in major cities, but decent sized considering it's NYC and most hotel rooms are tiny. The location is great as far as walking distance to Times Square and subway stations, but a little seedy with so many adult stores and a parole office on the block. Most of the adult stores are just called DVD stores, so there aren't inappropriate displays in the windows except for one or two. The parole offices have crowds outside during the day but no one bothered us. For the price, I would stay there again. The block doesn't have the ideal neighbors, but great in terms of proximity to area attractions. The biggest problem we had was with the consierge. He wasn't helpful at all. He wanted to sell us show tickets, but we had prepurchased everything online. When we asked for directions or information about transportation, he directed us to other information desks at our destinations. Not very helpful for people who do not know the area.

Short walk from hotel
Broadway Joe's on restaurant row serves amazing steaks and has good service and local charm. The area has a lot of food choices but I would still suggest planning your meals in advance so that you know where to eat near what attractions you are visiting.

Great hotel, great price, great location
Great new hotel in midtown. It's next door to another new hotel and 2 new ones are the street behind it. Slight walk to Times Square but easy to do. Port Authority subway station is only a few yards down the street, which made it very convenient. The rooms are small NYC rooms, but if you've ever been to the city you know what size room to expect. Everything seemed new. We had a walk-in shower and a nice size bathroom. Great flat screen TV and very comfortable bed. Breakfast had wonderful NY bagels. Also had fruit, breads, pastries, breakfast sandwiches you could heat in the microwave, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, cereal, juices, coffee, tea, etc. They served breakfast till 10:30. Staff was very helpful and nice. We were always welcomed when we returned to the hotel and greeted each day when we left. Convenient bathrooms downstairs, computers, free coffee & hot chocolate. Some criticized the location - there is a less than desirable DVD shop between the subway station and the hotel. But we often saw police there as well as hotel staff standing outside the hotel looking down the street. We never felt threatened. It was no different than lots of other streets in the city. There's a parole office too but it was closed when we came back each night. Because it's in midtown, we could be anywhere in Manhattan and quickly return to the hotel to freshen up, drop off bags, etc. Being on 40th, it's only a few blocks from restaurant row. There's a Dean & Deluca and a Starbucks both nearby. We searched tons of hotels in NYC and having been there many times before we knew what the price range was. This was far and away the best deal. It would be nice to have larger rooms, but is it worth the extra $$$ when you never stay very much while visiting the city? We'd rather spend the money on food, shows, shopping, etc. You can spend a lot more and still have a dump of a room in the city or stay here, save money and have a nice new room with a great free breakfast.
