Doubletree Suites was in a perfect location for our NYC vacation. It's right in Times Square, however the tower (where all ... the hotel rooms are) seem "around the corner" from all the noise and flashing lights. This made it surprizingly quiet and comfortable! From our location, we could easily walk to subway entrances, shopping, sights, and attractions! Even the bar in the Hotel was a great place to end our full days of sightseeing before crashing for the night.

If you want to splurge, you have to try Le Bernardin, if you want to try some great BBQ try, Virgils. Both within short walks from Doubletree Hotel. Also, hop the subway to the Brooklyn Bridge, walk over it, follow Front Street to Grimaldi's Pizza. One of the last Coal Burning Oven Pizzarias - soooo worth the long wait!

I went with 2 friends to NYC for a sight seeing shopping trip. Hotel was a great base. Right in the middle of things. The ... room was great, lots of room for all of our purchases. We were on the 9th floor but the noise from Times Square was minimal. Didn't have any trouble sleeping. Staff were all very nice and helpful. Great trip.

TKTS booth right across street from hotel. The line looks long but goes pretty quick. We went and got tickets to Chicago and Mamma Mia 2 nights when we didn't have any plans.

The Children's Museum is closed on Mondays - FYI. The observatory at the "Top of the Rock" at Rockefeller Center is well worth seeing and young children are free (under 4 I think). Negotiate the price of a pedi-cab ride up front!!! They will tell you after they take you 6 blocks that the minimum charge is $20 - NOT SO. Just pay what you think it's worth and note that 6 blocks in a taxi is about $3. The Liberty Island ferry ride/tour is awesome and something everyone should do. Subway to south end of island and then ferry - not too difficult and well worth the effort although it will basically take an entire day.

Super location, spacious rooms for NYC
TN Family Oct 21, 2009
Fantastic hotel location and having the "suite" arrangement meant being able to put my daughter to bed when she was ready and ... still having a living room in which to visit and watch TV etc. Having two rooms (and a bed in each with the pull out) was super with kids. Also, there was a microwave and fridge in the room so we kept snacks, milk etc. for her which meant we didn't have to call room service or run out to eat just for coffee in the morning for example. Having amenities and space like this is rare for NYC at this price-point and being in Times Square was a bonus. The staff were helpful and friendly and even gave us free shipping boxes when our "haul" wouldn't fit in the suit cases. They happily brought extra coffee packets, pillows, blanket etc. We ordered room service just once and it was prompt, hot, and delicious. Good job all around DoubleTree!

I was there on business along with a coworker. Both of our wife's came along for the trip. They went shopping during the day ... and we met up with them later in the day. It was the first trip for the other couple and we were tour guides. The Doubter's location made it very easy as a place to start your travels from. Plenty of site seeing in the Times SQ area. All of the Broadway shows. We were there four days and still did not get to see and do everything we wanted. I have stayed at a number of different hotels in NYC and this was the best all around. I will be staying at the Doubletree on our next trip.

Our stay at the Doubletree was excellent. All hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent giving ... us access to any of the attractions we were interested in. It was well within walking distance of the theatres, in the very heart of Times Square, and had easy access to the subway system no matter which direction we wanted to travel. I will highly recommend this hotel to any of our family or friends that will be visiting in the future. We also will stay here for sure on our next visit. Our stay made the trip very enjoyable.

Jewayne Oct 12, 2009
The first thing to understand about the Doubletree is its amazing location. Being right on Times Square, it puts you right ... in the middle of, well, everything. For theater tickets, TKTS is right across the street. The theaters themselves are virtually all within a few blocks walk. Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall are also just couple of blocks away. Within a one-block radius, you will find the launching point for several different tour bus companies. Now, the location might not be for everyone -- the crowds just outside the door are massive, even in the wee hours of the morning. You will be harassed by pushy street merchants selling knock-off handbags and tour bus tickets. There is an "upscale gentlemen's club" within a stone's throw. But if you don't mind the "urban jungle" aspect, the location is absolutely unbeatable. The second thing I would note is that this is a newer hotel that has a modern aesthetic. I loved the lobby -- I thought it had both style and class. Our suite was the smallest suite I've seen, but I wasn't expecting bigger, because this is Manhattan after all. The room was very clean and felt new. The "city view" from the room looked up 7th Avenue and was really beautiful, with Central Park in the background. The service was very good. We were able to do an early check-in and order a roll-away bed with no problem. Every morning we sent the maid (who spoke perfect English) away because we weren't exactly early risers, but she always came back after we left and left the room spotless. At checkout, we were able to leave our bags at the belldesk for free and had no problem picking them up later. A few things prevented a 5 star rating: the refrigerator in the room didn't work, and neither did one of the power outlets. The TV was HD but the TV signal was not. The concierge desk wasn't open 24 hours. The a la carte continental breakfast was quite expensive, and we heard the full breakfast in the restaurant was so expensive that we didn't even look at it . But the biggest disappointment was the sofabed, which was too uncomfortable to sleep on. When it came my turn to sleep on it, I just kept it folded up and slept on the sofa.
Traveler type: Friends
If you're staying at the Doubletree, hold off on getting theater tickets until the day of the show, unless it's a really high-demand show that you think will sell out early. With the TKTS booth right outside the door, chances are you'll pay less money for the same show by buying it on the day-of. Matinee tickets go on sale in the morning, and tickets for evening/night shows go on sale at 3 PM.

My husband had been to NYC on business - it was my daughters' (ages 21 and 19) and my first trip. I wanted it to be special ... because it might be the last time we travel as a family. We just loved our location at Doubletree Suites Times Square - it was so easy to take the subway (across the street), get discount tickets (across the street), step right outside the door and be in the heart of Times Square, walk a few blocks in any direction and see the sights. The staff was helpful, especially the concierge, the rooms were clean, and I felt very safe having security watching the doors and elevator, and going up 3 floors to the lobby before going up to our rooms. We ate one night at Ginger's (the hotel restaurant) and had a wonderful time with a very attentive staff. My girlfriend had recommended this hotel, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in NYC for the first time. Even my husband was impressed. :-D

Getting discount tickets to shows at TXS across the street was very easy - it was even easier than it was described in the tour books. The box office opens up a few hours before the shows, I had fun talking to people in line, and they now take credit cards, checks or money - you don't have to stand in a long line with a bunch of money in your wallet. Makes it so much easier! Have several shows in mind before you get up to the window. Doing the City Sites tours was also a great time saver - got to see the whole city in a few days. Nice to be able to hop on and hop off.

This was an exceptional spot for three women on a girl's week in New York. With two beds and a comfortable pull out sofa ... everyone slept well. The suite was large and provided a great place to relax with coffee and a newspaper in the morning. The best feature was the additional sink and mirror in the "kitchenette" area. It enabled us to do hair and apply makeup while someone else was using the shower. We were steps from theater and the fabulous food on 46th street. The icing on the cake was the staff. [...], our delightful concierge, worked hard to acquire premium seats to Lion King and seemed truly glad to see that we were happy. Everyone at the property was cheerful and helpful. We will return next year.

check-in process can use improvement. We had to come back to the hotel few times before being able to check-in. The hotel ... system was not design to make a list of early guests and their options of rooms when the rooms becomes available...first come first serve. This forced us to stay close to the hotel and come back to check and select a room. The hotel room was very nice with separate bedroom to keep the hall noise away from the bedroom. We'll stay there again.

We requested and received tickets to Live with Regis and Kelly and David Letterman. Went to both shows. My Wife and I would positively try to Live with Regis and Kelly again. Letterman was just ok. Afterwards we went to the TKTS booth in front of the hotel and walked right up and got tickets to 9-5. The one thing I would not recommend is the Super Shuttle. It was not that Super. They would only pick us up at 6:45 am or 9:45 am from the hotel to catch the 10:20 am flight. Had to wait at the airport three hours. Even after talking to the rude supervisor they would not pick up between 7:45 and 8:45am. Found out it was just as cheap to take a Taxi for two people.
