I just didn't feel comfortable in this place. The bed skirting and comforter needed to be replaced; they were both old and tired. The elevators need to be repaired. Only two out of 4 were working and the two that were working are small and slow so people were waiting 20+ minutes for elevators. I was also turned off by the sign on the luggage storage room door that said something to the effect that if the hotel loses your luggage it is your responsibility. What's the point offering complimentary storage if you want to be able to loose luggage? The location also turned out to be more of an inconvenience than I thought it would be. Uws/Harlem is far away from all the places I want to go to in New York so I was paying 20-25 in cab fare (one way) to get to lower manhattan. I would have been better off reserving a better hotel in lower manhattan and using the subway to get around.

Exception excepted
Good for what it is and needs to be, especially when budget factors
Over all good. The staff is ... Well half the staff is great, some of the best you can hope or expect to find at any level hotel, however comma , the othe 50% really are mediocre to terrible and like painfully so.. But the good half made it more than worth the stay .. Especially because was a last minute booking and I ended up extend the full work week .. The rooms are hit or miss and need something but I know some have been updated tho not all. And I must say the option of smoking rooms in this city are fewer and fewer each day and as a smoker I was more than pleased to have one :)

you get what you pay for
Hotel stated they don't have their own personal garage but you can use the hertz parking garage on the next street over at a discount. (with the discount it cost me 81 dollars to park 3 nights..) The parkig garage staff had no idea about this discount and the front desk at the hotel argued with me about it. Of course then while all this was going on the elevator got stuck on someone which I had an uneasy feeling about in the first place. We ended up using the other very slow elevator. Only convienent piece of this hotel was that it was 1 street over from the subway. the hotel smells of old oodles of noodles and the stairways is a blunt smell of marijuana. I will spend the money on a nicer closer hotel to the attractions next time.

I GO PLACES
A good value for NYC
This is my second time at this hotel, and if you're looking for good, basic value, this is ideal. Of course sometimes things happen that you can't predict, and this time 3 of the four elevators weren't working! It took 20 minutes to get from the 7th floor to the lobby. When the weather is good, it's a great area to wander around in. Broadway has everything, and the side streets give you a birds eye view of a typical upper west side neighborhood/architecture.

I GO PLACES
All In All, A Good Choice
I'm originally from NYC, so I don't need to be "in the heart of" the tourist attractions. This hotel is located in a "real neighborhood," and from that vantage point, it's interesting even for tourists, especially since the subway and buses are right there. I even saw a stop for the NYC tour bus a block away. The lobby is nothing to write home about, but who cares? The hallways are long and narrow and noisy. The doors slam closed. The elevators are very slow. A tad off-putting also was walking down the hall and seeing a guest in her nightgown sitting on the floor talking on her cell phone! Still, the rooms are large by NYC standards, and all in all, it can feel above average when the price is right.

Don't go to the European Cafe for breakfast - even though the hotel offers tempting vouchers. Walk a few blocks south to Big Daddy's instead.

Romantic Getaway
This was my first experience staying in a 2-Star hotel, Which wasn't all that bad. It's in a nice area but it's still NYC so it was really loud early in the morning. One thing this hotel must change is their cable availability. Iwas really shocked and disappointed at the same time because there wasn't any cable.

small but clean room, pristine bathroom
A nice hotel for under $200 is hard to find in manhattan. This Day's Inn was a really good deal for the location. It had a gorgeous bathroom, which was about 3/4 of the size of the room.

Staff not efficient
Desk clerks notified every day over a period of three days that the main room light and the bed light needed replacement bulbs and that the bathroom continued to flush without stopping. They were not fixed. It was no pleasure to be in that room. Otherwise a typical one to two star hotel. This was a room which cost about $160.00 a night. certainly not worth that.
