Staff did try...
I stayed here because it was close to location of wedding I attended. My room was stiflingly hot when I checked in. Radio/clock alarm not plugged in, and iron didn't work. When I called front desk, they did promptly send staff to fix radio, replace iron, and try to deal with the A/C. Room was eventually cooler. Did have a nice view of the East River, and room was fairly spacious, and quiet. First time I stayed here, and as a regular visitor to NY, location seemed a bit out of the way compared to other places I've stayed. Neighborhood was pleasant, but probably wouldn't stay here again.

Upper East Side Delight
The staff that checked me in and out were most courteous and accomodating; they gave me a room high up which I prefer. And it had a great view of the East River, the busy Queensboro Bridge, and the Roosevelt Island gondola. The room was really good sized for Manhattan; the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom beautifully done. The only odd thing is that a white electric stove was located along one wall and sort of stuck out into the room. Although it had a fridge in it and a microwave above (which I am sure some guests would take advantage of),it looked decidedly out-of-place in the otherwise rather chicly decorated room. You should know that it is on York Ave. and there are no stores or restuarants right next door, but if you take the block-long walk up to First you'll see everything you need. And I found it quite convenient to the 79th Street Lexington Ave Line. I did note that their restaurant on the top floor - again, the views are fab - was closed on weekends for dinner which I thought inconvenient for a first class hotel. But the bar there was open, and actually has quite reasonable prices for NYC! I think travelers to NYC who want to hang in the Upper East Side will truly enjoy this hotel.

In Hotel
The hotel's restaurant is open every day for a buffet breakfast you can buy, but if you just want coffee to bring to your room, they will give it to you free, and it's good!

Needs better upkeep.
The Bentley Hotel has the makings of a nice hotel however, due to bad upkeep, maintenance and cleaning it looks shappy and unkempt....... it did not feel like the 4* we expected. The decor is nice but is obviously shabby in the reception area (scratches on doors), lift area (marks on walls, floor dirty), rooms (sofa was ripped) and corridors (not vacummed). Not worth the money.

Disappointing
The Bentley Hotel has potential to be a great, convenient hotel, but it was unfortunately a disappointment. While the lobby was nice, the elevators, hallways, and rooms were older, less clean, and noisy, including street noises. You can see they are trying to update it to be more modern, but it has a way to go. Regarding service, the staff was very slow to respond to all levels of service. The bed was comfortable, and the hotel serves its purpose if you're not going to spend much time there. The location is good for almost any activity, but would be more worth it at a lower cost, all things considered.

Ok for the money
Beautiful views of the east river and queensborough bridge. Room had a wierd small and bed was too short for me and I'm only 6'. Last year they had free coffee in the lobby but this year it was out of order. Hotel seems to have gone downhill a bit since last year, although still reasonably priced for a midtown room at Christmas time.

Great Looking Rooms
The Bentley Hotel was suprisingly nice. Upon arrival we noticed a lot of construction in the lobby and that also made us nervous about the rest of the hotel. Our room was beautiful. The decor was very warm and modern.... I loved the white leather headboard!

Good Enough
The Bentley staff is excellent. The hotel itself needs some work, but by and large is good. On our last stay, the room we were assigned had a nonfunctioning air conditioner. The bellman noted the problem immediately and got us assigned to a new room, much nicer except that it didn't have enough bathroom towels. This was corrected immediately and cordially.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
The Ritz Diner is one long block's walk away on 62nd and 1st. There's an excellent grocery store under the bridge at first, with places in the store to eat what one has bought there. Numerous other restaurants are located in the area, on 1st Avenue.

a bit run-down
The best thing I can say is that the bed was VERY comfortable. the room also had a HUGE window with a great view. downside's were furnture was battered, no drawers for clothing, tiny closet (we stayed for four days so it mattered). Worst thing was the hot water - it was unreliable. Not a lovely hotel but OK for the price. It's off the beaten path which makes it a little pain to get to the subway, etc. but overall, a good value for the money. also, could not get the maid to leave two sets of towels to save my life (even though two of us were registered)
