Rooms need a make over

I have stayed here 5-6 times and have noticed that the furnishings, carpet and kitchen supplies need to be up graded. Will stay here again but wish the place would get an upgrade

Nice hub to explore Midtown

We were staying on Jan 2-6 2013 in a suite, 15th floor. Pros: Nice location, just north from the UN. Staff was very responsive and nice. The suite is huge for Manhattan standards, enough room for 3 people. Bed was pretty comfortable. The kitchen included fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, utensils, pens and pots. Cons: The room needs some renovation as everything is pretty old. They should start from heating/cooling. Out of our two units one was heating only, the other was cooling only. TVs are not flat. I didn't know they still exist. However, after renovation the price might go up, which would make the hotel expensive :-) So, it may not be a good idea. You come to NYC not to watch tv after all. Just fix the heating/cooling. Tips: There is a restaurant on the top of the building, 26th floor. Pretty expensive, you are paying mainly for the view. There are plenty of restaurants nearby on second avenue one 24hour little store across the street.

Christmas in NYC

Nice people. Liked the location-it was out of the main stream but close enough to get where we needed to go. We were sleeping four and the sofa bed was much to be desired. Main lobby wasn't decked out for Christmas and that was the purpose of our trip to see NYC dressed for Christmas! Not a bad place.

Top of the Town

Very friendly helpful staff. This is the antithesis of those designer hotels. Old New York charm and it works. Very clean & comfortable. Top of the Town bar restaurant has classic unbeatable NY views.

Good Location

Did not spend much time at the hotel but did have nice accomodations. The hotel is very old so the heating system was not adjustable and we had to open the windows because it was set at 82 degrees!

NYC

Very affordable place to place the hotel itself is not so glamorous however clean and comfortable within walking distance to subway. there are some decent restaurants close by and a grocery across the street. I was very surprised at the size of the room BIG. The location was a little isolated but found it was quiet at night so sleeping was easier very little street noise. I was able to get a cab easily but mainly would walk the four or five blocks to the subway which was no big deal. Only problem I experienced was the coffee maker in room did not work and the hotel did not have any self serve coffee unitil730 am! by then I was already gone each day

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

across street from hotel is a grocery store so you can purchase snacks and drinks as a more reasonable rate then room service in the hotel also a cafe that has a great breakfast and is a fraction of the cost that the top of the tower restaurant charges in the hotel

Unexpected upgrade!

When we checked in we were upgraded to a suite in the annexe, which was very nice, but slightly shabby. The rooms were a bit chilly, but as soon as we mentioned this at reception the temperature improved. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant as we were taken out to dinner every night but we did visit it to look at the view, which was great. The deli on the corner across the street was fantastic for buying breakfast and stamps. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Location very convenient for us as our daughter lives 3 stops north on the nearby subway. We would definitely stay there again.

Eaterly on west 23rd street, for an unusual but cheap and cheerful dining experience.

Great location, great price

When we booked our flights and hotel together, we were able to get a discount on this hotel, so we were ecstatic. The pictures on the website looked extraordinary and the price was phenomenal. We were slightly disappointed with what we found when we got there, however. The room felt a little dirty and outdated, but the convenience of being walking distance to Times Square without paying Times Square price was worth it for us! The hotel could use a little update on some other amenities, as well. For example, you had to call to get ice delivered to your room in a small bucket, whereas I would have preferred a machine accessible on some floor. Regardless, we had a good stay. Thanks!
