Security issues and Extra charges

We spent 4 days touring, shopping and seeing shows. The concierge was a waste of time unless you are an inexperienced ... traveler. We were very careful not to consume or use all the products for sale strewn about the room. We also knew not to use the phone. They still insisted on charging $94.36 for a 34 minute call that was made when we were not in the room. They insisted we made it but we knew we didn't. They couldn't believe there is a glitch in thier system or a security issue. The managers were the rudest to talk to and they wouldn't even return calls or emails. I filed a dispute with my credit card. This rude staff ruined what was actually a pleasant stay in NYC. The room and location was good but hopefully some other company will acquire and manage it.

This hotel gives excellent value for money. The rooms were very large and the view we had of the Chrysler Building ... expecially at night was amazing. The location is ideal for visiting all the tourist attractions in New York. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We really could not fault this hotel and the Barking Dog Cafe which is attached to the hotel is well worth eating in.

My wife and I treated ourselves to a 70th Birthday visit to NY from England. The Hotel was excellent with an exceptionally ... friendly staff. The room was bigger than expected for NY, spotless, quiet with very comfortable beds. We did all the things a tourist does in a great city like NY and found the location near perfect for getting around. the only downside was that the restuarant attached was only average. However with a huge number of alternatives within yards this was no problem. Highly recommended.

Bring comfortable shoes. Use the subway for distance, but walk when you can. There is always something to see or a place to shop. So much to take in that you forget how much you walk. Hotel was centrally located and the subway only 2 blocks away can get you anywhere. New Yorker's are very helpful.

After staying in the Affinia Chicago as out 1st Affinia experience, we're well aware of the friendly staff and service that ... comes w/staying at this chain. We Didn't stay in the hotel much, so I can't say anything about the spa or gym. However, the staff is very friendly and accommodating as we've grown accustom to. It was my bday weekend and we ask for a higher floor upgrade. Unfortunately, there were none available but we found a very nice bottle of 2005 Calif. Merlot in our room on my bday in exchange! Will always look for Affinia hotels when traveling!

Fantastic U S Open Vacation
LV and NY Sep 19, 2009
I enjoyed the entire experience. We requested a studio above the 30th floor and facing the Hudson River. Little did we ... know, it would also give us a wonderful view of the Empire State Building. That was a unexpected treat. The entire sky line was wonderful, day or night. The Barking Dog is the restaurant next to Affinia. Its' food was fresh and they had a nice selection. There was also a deli on one corner (good choice), a convenience store on another (clean), numerous surrounding restaurant, the subway is two short blocks away (the 6 train), and you could hail a cab in two minutes. You could not go wrong when you select Affinia Dumont.
Traveler type: Family
From the hotel, we walk maybe 15 minutes away and we were on on 5th Ave near Bryant Park, the fabric district. Two or three more block away and you could be in Time Square. I truly enjoyed this hotel and vacation. I will come back to the Affinia Dumont.

My boyfriend and I wanted a hotel close to Time Square and Central Park, but not necessarily right in the middle of it all. ... Affinia Dumont is located just outside of this area. It's approx. a 7 minute walk to the Empire State Building, and a 15 minute walk to Time Square. The hotel was amazing. We had a lovely view from the 28th floor of the Chrysler Building and downtown New York.

Enjoyable stay in New York
Young Couple Sep 4, 2009
This hotel is very nice. We stayed in the smallest "Studio" room, but it was still very roomy and well furnished. We didn't ... really take advantage of the fitness kits or spa that was available, but they have runners, walkers, etc fitness kits available with map, pedometer/heart rate monitor, CD player, etc. We got the Unlimited ride card with MTA and found plenty of exercise from just walking around to all of the NY sites. The hotel is just a couple of blocks away from the 33rd & Park subway stop. New York is loud. We didn't go to NY expecting a quiet get-away, but there was a fair amount of street noise at our 21st floor room (horns, sirens, etc.), but we also heard a lot of noise from the water of our neighbors.

There is a fairly full grocery store on 3rd av just up a block from the hotel (between 34th and 35th). It has a much larger selection and better prices that the Murray Market which is on the corner of 34th and Lexington. Since there's no included breakfast, we bought cereal, pop tarts, milk, juice, etc for $10 or so, instead of eating at their restaurant or the Dunkin Donuts that is right next door.

What do you want most in a hotel room? A comfortable bed! Every day we would leave the room at about 10am and return after ... 10pm - after walking all day long all we wanted was to put our feet up and crash into bed. The bed (a king size) was phenomenal - and the pillow menu meant you could find whatever sort worked for you. The sheets were extrememly high quality and sliding between them each night was a treat. The kitchen facilities were great to have, and the corner grocery store had a wonderful selection for morning nibblies. Have already recommended this hotel to friends and look forward to future stays myself.

This hotel is very clean, spacious-has a small kitchen, large king size bed. The location is great. It is quiet and it's only ... a 15 minute walk to times square maybe 5-8 blocks or so. On your way you pass the empire state building and you get a feel for the city. Great concierge, they will help you with maps, tours, subways. Affinia Dumont - NYC
Z Aug 20, 2009
We found the hotel ideally located in midtown Manhattan - 2 blocks from the Empire States, close to subway, close to Fashion ... Avenue etc. The 6 subway line which was very close to the hotel was direct to so many places. Bits and pieces could be bought from the nearby store, as well as Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts being close too. The room was spacious, with a lovely comfy chair and useful desk. The bed was very comfy and huge! The bathroom was nice, and the kitchen basic but adequate. The staff were always friendly and helpful - very approachable too! Would definately stay again ...

Joopnight Aug 16, 2009
My family & I selected this room because it was near my sister's place. The location is superb because it's close to Macy's, ... a variety of great restaurants, Murray Hill, etc. The area is quiet, which is hard to find in NYC, and the price is more reasonable compared to popular hotels in Time's Square, for example. There is easy accessibility to the subway from the hotel. One qualm is that there is no pool, but the room was well worth it. We stayed in the Family Room Suite near the top of the building and had a wonderful view of the Hudson River. Bathroom was very nice w/ Aveda products. They have a complementary pillow menu, which was pretty cool. Family room was spacious and a great place to congregate. There was a kitchenette with everything we needed. The "minibar" drinks and food for sale by the hotel in the room were expensive, so we opted to walk across the street and pick up a few things to put in the fridge. I'm not quite sure why the hotel was ranked at #94 in the world or it being ranked #9 in the US by [...]. I've been to outstanding hotels around the world, with luxurious rooms, unparalleled customer service and amenities, and my opinion is that the hotel is good but not that great. So, don't get sucked into the hype. All in all, I thought this was a very good room. My family loved it as well. This semi-luxury hotel is perfect for the traveller who wants a 4-star hotel at a 3-star price. We would definitely stay here again.

If you're in the mood for Indian food, try "Tiffinwallah" in nearby Murray Hill. It's a short walking distance from the hotel and the food there is outstanding. The spice level is mild-moderate, and easy on the belly for those wanting to try indian food.

Great room/hotel but I suspect we'd never be able to afford it without the Orbitz deal, including our flight. The room was ... huge.

Take the concierge's suggestions for restaurants with a grain of salt. Some good, some pretty touristy/okay. Lots to choose from in the vicinity of the hotel so check Frommer's or Zagat before coming, if possible.
