Basic hip in midtown

Ace is a very cool hipster hotel, nothing shish here. Great lively lobby with fun drinks and young people. Not a place for business suites or polyester ties. Next door is an amazing Seafood/ Oyster bar named John Dory- very much worth the $ Rooms are basic, but very well styled. It has an awesome bed, old school record player and selection of records together with a guitar for those who like to play a tune before going to bed. Rooms where luckily quite enough for a relaxing sleep. Liked the soaps for the copper shower, although not a huge fan of taking showers in the bath tup. In general good value for money & good location in Midtown to get around.

Good mix of buzz and quiet

Had a 'small' room which was fine, with a comfy king bed, and no noise at all from the buzzy lobby. Couple of nits: no power socket available at the desk, and more power sockets in the lobby would be great. Also the bathroom window was pretty drafty, which in the cold snap during which I stayed, made for a chilly morning shower. But overall a good stay, and a great location for the price.

Fair accomondations

After being in the room no longner than a minute, a large roach took a stroll across the room. We coul not wait to leave for home the next day. While there we went to the Rose room at the Lincoln Center to hear an outstanding jazz program.

enjoy the thought that went into guest comfort

What a blast! It's edgy, young, energetic and even this not-so-young guest felt totally at home. Great staff, very interesting decor, loved the sustainability aspect and the terrific snacks! So sorry I missed the restaurant; I loved the Portland OR restaurant....

Work and Play

The Ace is a gorgeous hotel with an innovative and clever design (sometimes a bit too clever). The Breslin is one of the most delicious places to eat in NYC. Go for brunch and be prepared to linger. The bunk beds are remarkably comfortable and the rooms are exceptionally clean for NYC. Don't be alarmed by the volume of the lobby at night because this was the quietest room in NYC I have ever stayed in. The lighting in the rooms is dreadful, however, and the mirror placement rather awkward. Perhaps that was just my room. If I had a chance to stay here again, I definitely would. The location is superb (although the street itself is a bit dodgy beyond the hotel property). All in all, one of my most pleasant NYC stays!

Not good if you've got allergies

Had a 12-hour overnight stopover in NYC on my way home from Europe and chose the Ace primarily because of its reputation, as well as its proximity to Penn Station. Walked in and the place was hopping--not what you necessarily want after spending 14 hours on airplanes, but hey. Figured it'd be quiet when I got to my room. Unfortunately, my room (while ENORMOUS and well-stocked) was on the second floor, facing the street, which meant all the smokers who'd been partying in the lobby were taking a cigarette break under my window, and had likely been doing so for months, if not years. As such, the room reeked of stale smoke and it was very difficult to sleep/breathe. When I mentioned it to the management at check-out, they shrugged it off and just said "next time we'll put you on a higher floor."
