stay at the ace
I came to go to a baby shower my daughter was giving. The room was clean but had a very strong moth ball smell. I didn't mention it to the staff but did feel strongly enough to purchase air freshener.

my daughter took me to Locanda Verde in TRiBeCa. Everything we ate was delicious. The scallops were cooked just right, browned on the outside and creamy on the inside.

ACE HOTEL
I like this hotel alot. The location is great (for me) but it is in an up and coming area, so if this is your first trip to New York, it is a little bit out of the way. The lounge is the best part of this hotel. The details in the rooms are also really cute. The only bad thing was that there was a cockroach in my room...and where there's one, there's more!

Great vibe at the Ace!
Although the location wasn't the best, there was plenty to do at the hotel itself. The restaurant was phenomenal. Also, a great crowd gathered at night for live music and drinks. It's a destination on the weekend and all I had to do was go downstairs. I enjoyed the free computer lab to catch up on e-mails. I don't travel with a computer so that was very convenient.

The train is right around the corner. The concierge printed out a map for me and told me exactly which stop to get off at. I was going all the way across town and this saved me a lot on cab fare. Don't fear the subway!

Hipster Hotel
Great proximity to the 28th & Broad subway station. Easy walking distance from Union Square! The area around the hotel itself isn't much to speak of, but the fact that you've got great access to both East and West side subway lines @ 14th street makes it easy to get around the city. The hotel staff was extremely nice and helpful, and the rooms were small but reasonable. Lobby/bar made for a great place to meet friends for a drink/people watch before going out at night.

Ace Hotel in New York
Stayed at the hotel while a on 3 day business trip, it was a great location for me. I had a room with 2 bunk beds and it was slightly weird. The beds were quit short too so anybody over 6'1" would find them uncomfortable. I also couldn't work in there as there was no chair and no desk. The lobby there is always buzzing, almost a club atmosphere at night, nevertheless the room was very quiet.

not a cookie-cutter hotel
This is a funky hotel. Really dark lobby with a loud DJ and large hipster crowd at night. Young kids might not like the atmosphere. We stayed in a bunk-bed room which was expensive - but fine for my 17-yo and me.

The experience was great except that they sent us a bill for eating out of the mini bar when we did not. They fixed it when we went to go see them.Clean rooms, great location!!!

Its Ace at the ACE !
This is a cool hotel, the lobby/bar is always full of 20-30 something cool manhattan after work people sipping cocktails and chatting with lots of friends. Great, sometimes pretty noisy atmosphere. My 10th floor room was a small single, great view straight out onto the Empire State, clean and very comfortable, with all the mod cons, iron/board,hair dryer, great mini-bar the LOT! bathroom is a bit of a squeeze, but not bad for NYC. My only small gripe, was that I was kept hanging around in the bar for a couple of hours because my room wasn't ready, but the staff apologised and gave me some free drink vouchers for the bar without me asking. Mid Town has been a bit tatty in the past, which is part of its charm, but the arrival of the ACE is one sign that it's the next trendy place to be.

Long walk from hotel
In the summer, and you fancy a good walk, go straight down 5th Ave until you hit George Washington square Park, there's open air films, street entertainers (good ones!), musicians. Then you've got loads of great restaurants and clubs within 100 yds. On the way back walk back up Ave of the Americas to see the real colour of late night NYC.

Trendy hotel with everything you need
The hotel lobby is also a lounge that is upbeat and busy but there are plenty of front desk staff to help you. There are witty signs all around the hotel directing guests. The room I stayed in, the bunk-bed style, was perfect for my friend and I. The room had everything: an ironing board with retro-looking iron, a flat screen TV, new but classic looking fixtures, a security box and a sturdy metal framed bunk bed. The room was filled with the little things that made my stay very enjoyable. The only things I did not like were that the AC worked but couldn't get the room much lower than 78 degrees when it was 92 outside and that the bedsheets were think and made for winter sleeping and not for the summer. I really like the location of this hotel, just a quick walk from Penn station, Times Square and the Empire state building. Coupled with it's trendy rooms that have all the amenities I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else next time I visit.

Nightlife tip:
Long walk from hotel
Visit Broadway. The tickets are pricey but well worth it. The theaters are just a 15 min walk up Broadway in Times Square. (Avoid people selling tickets on the street, you may get scammed thinking you are buying a cheap ticket)
