Welcome to the Garden Plaza Hotel, Kingston, NY formerly the Holiday Inn. Located in the Hudson River Valley region of New York State, the picturesque beauty of the Catskill Mountains surrounds our hotel. Centered between Albany and New York City, this Kingston hotel is easily accessible from the NYS Thruway (I-87) at exit 19. Leisure guests should know that activities change with the season, ensuring there is always something new to do near our lodging. The Catskills offer hiking and tubing in the summer and spring, county fairs and apple picking in the fall and skiing during the winter. We're the perfect pet-friendly hotel for guests participating in the Horse Shows in the Sun in Saugerties. Business travelers trekking between New York and Albany often seek lodging at our Catskills hotel and enjoy the calm, scenic atmosphere. The 24-hour Business Center and free Wi-Fi access are at your disposal as you work. We have a ballroom and a boardroom for your next corporate event, and an indoor courtyard for more casual social gatherings. Enjoy hiking, biking and sightseeing in this historic Hudson River Valley region. Plenty of fun can be found at the hotel, too, in the Garden Courtyard, with an indoor pool, sauna whirlpool and game room.
We currently are undergoing an extensive renovation of the property. This summer we focused on the exterior of the building and soon will start some of the interior public areas. We anticipate the renovation to take an entire year encompassing all public areas, restaurant, bar, pool, fitness center, business center, conference facility, guest rooms, as well as the exterior of the hotel including the grounds.
The hotel will continue to be operated by the same management team and staff dedicated to providing superior service to all our guests. During this transition, all of our guests will be provided with a complimentary continental breakfast from 7am to 10am. We will continue to offer all of our regular services but may relocate and temporarily operate in alternate locations due to the construction process. Sleeping room renovations will begin later this fall and continue into next spring.

Disappointing stay

This hotel was promoted as 3-stars but deserved two at best. It was undergoing a major remodel and very torn up from the lobby and adjacent hallways to the dining area and common spaces. The room was very ordinary and outdated. The flowers in the pots outside had died 5 months ago and never been cleaned up. This needs some serious work to get 3-stars!

Kingston Night

The building was shabby including hallways, room, furnishings, bedding, and bathroom, et al. The staff at checkin was fine, but the staff at checkout was very anxious because he had more than one person to contend with. The bathroom was unclean including shower walls, vanity, and toilet. I closed my eyes in the shower, and while brushing my teeth. The two beds were made up well, but again shabbily. Overall, my experience was poor.

very expensive hotel with very little to offer

at 200 dollars a night, one might expect something quite a bit better than this hotel. though close to the wedding we were attending, it had nothing else going for it. paper thin walls, dirty carpets and construction added to our overall dismay over our choice.

A nice experience for the money

As we drove up my heart sank. The motel is having extenisve remodeling so I was afraid what might be great for future sustomers was not going to be for us. I was mistaken. It was quite nice inside (there were some inconveniences but they did not effect our comfort) and provided lots of safe room for our very young grandchildren.

A surprise

We drove up to the hotel and my heart just sank. It was in the middle of extensive remodeling which might be great for future guests but not me. Instead, we found everything to really be in place. The atrium courtyard was safe and the pool provided a lot of fun for the grandchildren. It was very hot this past weekend so we were happy to have some space to do things inside with them as they are very young. The staff was very helpful and we found the location to be good. It is quiet but near enough to everything and literally a skip away from the Thruway. It was not luxurious but it had everything a family needs.

A great Italian restaurant in town. We also ate at a Ruby Tuesdays which was typical of its type but not bad.

Disappointing

First off, the hotel listing didn't say that it's in the middle of a large renovation. The high rates in no way indicate the current condition of the hotel. Photos make it look like the rooms are spacious and updated, and neither is true. The room was small and cramped (2 double beds). The sink had cracks. It all looks like it needs updating. The room had no desk, unlike the photos. The towels were very thin. The "full", "hot" breakfast was scrambled eggs which had been sitting too long & were very dry, potatoes, 2 varieties of little boxes of cereal, one type of juice, and some grocery-store Hostess-type donuts, along with toast and English muffins. Of the 3 bananas we tried, all had large bad spots. Things were either dried out or stale to the point where my almost-teenaged son wouldn't eat. Hotel walls were paper thin, so you can hear everything happening in all rooms around you. The staff was nice and check-in was easy and the hotel is very close to the interstate. Overall, for the price, this was a huge disappointment, and far more like the budget hotels than a three-star establishment.

Entrance to Catskills

Holiday Inn in Kingston is an older full service hotel with the "Holidome" concept. There is a pool, hot tub, video game area and tables and chairs for people to enjoy. Remember the chlorine smell from those family vacations of yesteryear? Well the Holidome will take you right back. It has an excellent location of I-87 to the entrance of the Catskills. The rooms are great, new furniture and soft goods. The hallways could use work. The dinner is suprisingly much better than typical Holiday Inn fare. Try the sirloin! To conclude, its a great family hotel with a fabulous location.

Comfortable and convenient

Comfortable and easy to find off NY Thruway, but unremarkable. Bed and pillows were nice, and AC was quiet and well-controlled, but beyond that this hotel is decidedly average -- dressed up where it counts but dowdy around the edges. The fitness center barely qualifies for the name. The wireless Internet, while free, was weak and intermittent. Ice machines on two different floors were both out of order. There's little within walking distance that anyone would want to walk to. Staff was friendly and competent, but seemed like I was interrupting them when I checked in at 11PM. This hotel would be a great value at 30-50% off.

Entertainment tip: In Hotel

Pool table, swimming pool, hot tub and gaming area in a spacious indoor enclave at the center of the hotel would be great if one had kids and were stuck here on a raining summer or snowy winter day on a budget.

Avoid at all costs!

Picture your worst nightmares in a hotel stay and you've got the Holiday Inn Kingston. Dirty corridors with carpet warped and ready to trip you, unclean rooms, hairs on pillows, bugs crawling on the floor and spiders floating from the ceiling, unmentionables on toilets, leaky ceilings with a Chinese water torture drip, drip dripping onto the heating unit that either turns the room into an inferno or a deep freeze. The restaurant is filthy and despite being the only party for breakfast (a very expensive breakfast, I might add), the service was unbearably slow, completely botched and the food was horrible. Eggs poached hard as rocks, burned hash from a can, sausage in the veggie scramble??!!
