Hilton garden inn jfk
The room was nice and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was very nice. The problems: 1. I had a problem with the toilet called it in, they said engineer is on the way - never came. 2. Transportation is good to jfk and back (they have a shuttle twice an hour), but anywhere else...good luck even a taxi you need to order in advance. And there is nothing to eat in walking distance except the hotel restaurant. Took me 1:40 to get from the hotel to manhattan. Take the shuttle to jfk then air train to jamaic and subway tomanhatta.

in and around JFK you're not going to find much in terms of an excellent place to stay. The Hilton Garden Inn is competent, particularly if you're just staying for a single night. Clean, somewhat comfortable with free wifi. Beyond that, it leaves a little to be desired.

The hotel bus picks up from Federal Circle at JFK. That means a train ride from the airport. Plan accordingly.

Best part was the breakfast
Though there were some complications stemming from booking a smoking-room (though a staff member insisted that it wasn't, the smell was very obvious), the rest of our stay was pretty nice. I have to say the best part was the all-you-can eat buffet. We only had breakfast, but the variety of foods were great and the service was excellent. Rahman and Vinny were especially considerate, even offering to make us a large Belgian waffle himself when one of us caused the batter to stick to the waffle-maker. The gym was a bit cramped but as a family of four, we were able to get a good 45-minute workout. What we did NOT appreciate, however, was the $21/day hotel guest parking fee. We know that it is rare for guests to rent cars, considering the hotel provided free shuttle service but to cause additional burden for those who do happen to rent a car is inexplicable to us. To avoid that, we had no choice but to park the car outside across from the hotel. Also, the bedsheets were not as comfortable as we had hoped. Overall, it was a good stay. We would recommend it to others if they happened to be in the Jamaica area.

convenient for early morning flights
I stayed overnight as I had an early morning flight from JFK. I arrived late (close to midnight) and had no problems with the staff checking in, despite the hour. The hotel was quiet, clean and comfortable. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to the airport that runs on the half hour. It was very convenient.

No complimentary breakfast. Got to know this only when we were done with breakfast in the hotel and paying 14$ each.

HOTEL like a motel
the best things about this hotel were that it was somewhat quiet and the shuttle from the airport to the hotel was somewhat helpful I am angry that my free breakfasts were not written up in such a way on my reservation that the hotel knew about them ...I had to call and fight to get Bfast for free on friday morn then no record was kept so i didnt get bfast for free on sat and sun. The shower allows only a very light spray (no water pressure) in order to wash your body...awful just awful. Then on the way out... the hotel had no idea how busy the airport would be sunday morning only had one shuttle running and lots of folks with me were not happy about the lack of prep the hotel did getting folks to the airport. in order to make my flight i had to stop the van and say please let me out and others followed and i had to run from terminal 4 to 5 via the air train. This was worst way to end a fun trip to NYC... the Hilton garden inn needs a new manager one that manages and understands that he is an airport hotel and has to use his staff in order to make sure every guest is taken care of.

I was delighted with this hotel
I was delighted with this hotel and would stay there again. In the past I have stayed at a couple of other brand name hotels at JFK and was disappointed with each of them. This HGI was a real contrast. It was much cleaner and the staff were genuinely helpful which is quite an achievement for such a busy location. They went out of their way to be helpful and were efficient and kind. The transport from the airport was way better, faster and friendlier, than at a hotel of comparable price on a previous occasion.
