Careful of the "upgrades"

Booked our room for a room described as a "luxurious new mattresses and bedding collection". Upon check-in was told we were being "upgraded" to a Penthouse Suite. Sounds great right? Wrong! Except for the TV, the last time this room saw something new was the first Reagan term. Uncomfortable beds, worn rugs, 80's bathroom amenities, loud mechanicals, dingy windows, water damaged ceilings, and on and on. If we didn't have to get ready for a dinner reservation we would have demanded a new room. The only saving grace was the staff, especially valet and bellman. Other than that - Next time, I'll save a few and stay at the Hyatt Place.

Never again

Not sure what their intentions were but the antique décor of the room felt more like garage sale than Louis XVI. No mini bar (imagine that!) and only decaf coffee available in the room. Front desk staff are real "winners". The junior one insisted that I had to pay even though my reservation was fully paid through Or***z. It took him half hour to figure out he was wrong. You would think he would at least apologize - no such luck!! The senior one was way above it all and too busy flirting with female guests to get involved and assist his colleague (not to mention me - THE GUEST!).

Really Nice Hotel, staff unusually rude

Great classic hotel with many of the trimmings. Doormen were interested only in tips and fancy cars. Front desk staff was good and courteous. Many pilots and flight attendants use this hotel and try to get in front of line thinking they are more important. Room was well decorated and clean. Quiet too. High price didnt include breakfast. Floor staff was rude, walked in to room to clean a carpet stain, but we hadnt called. Though we insisted we were in room and changing clothes, non english speaking employee pushed by to clean the stain. 3 electrical outlets and the safe didnt work. Pool lifeguard was very polite. Lobby was well decorated with shops. Floor staff re-entered our room despite do not enter sign on door. Repair staff also showed up 3 hrs late to fix safe key but not the outlets. In pool, at 945 pm some employee came yelling that pool closed at 10pm, then was angry and yelling angry at 957pm when I took a one minute shower. He started insulting in Spanish, then actually he came into locker room only to yell that shower was about to close. I almost punched him, but he was smart enough to leave. Pool was clean and warm. There was a gym, a sauna and surprisingly no hot tub. You can find hot tubs at one star hotels but not here. I was disappointed at the quality of staff, worse then a 3 star for that aspect. It's like they hired good front receptionists and for the rest cut corners and reached towards the bottom of the non english speaking hiring pool. Commuter railroad is in front but I almost never heard any noise.

Upscale, a little stuffy

Outside and appearance of the hotel was superb. Upscale, classy spot but thats where it ends. Staff was mostly rude and stuffy and room was older and outdated. Stained carpets, cracked bathroom tile, beat up night stands. Not worth the price unless you score a major deal

Okay Accomodations Poor WiFi!

A grand hotel in the heart of Garden City- great food at the Rein restaurant for dinner-- we ate there twice. The wi-fi was horrendous-- AT&T was the server and for the $12.95 per day-- the signal strength was poor. No ethernet cable to connect to-- it was all wireless and no matter where I sat in my room on the 2nd floor the wireless connection remained poor! We got the charges removed from the bill, but for a grand hotel, it should have better wireless and/or a wired internet service. Been in many hotels in major cities and this internet connection was the absolute worst. Probably won't stay in this hotel again because of the internet service. Beautiful lobby and nice rooms; they need to work on improving or installing wired internet connections.

Just Ok

Arrived & had to wait for room to be ready, it was ok with us, had lunch 2 hours later went up to rooms, my room had an awful smell, my daughter room was filty, changed my room (inconvenient to us) cleaned my daughters room, had problem with A/C not cooling room in her room, they sent up someone and still did not cool off room after they checked it, charged me $ 85.00 to my card without telling me for what ever reason, they told me it would be put back after checking out, would not recommend this location unless changes r made

Pleasantly surprised

I was very pleased with this hotel, my room (after I was not as satisfied with my first room, they were very accommodating to change and the new room was great), the staff (very friendly and helpful), room service, the restaurant, location and amenities.

it was a good experience

the hotel was beautiful, and the service and staff were always accomodating and helpful. the only problem was that i had a room with a balcony which i thought would give me a nice view, but being that it was very early spring, it was too cold to go out on and not the kind that you could see anything without being out at the end of it.
