Unique place for a stopover

This old courthouse is an interesting place to stay the night. Not 'grand' or 'royale' in amenities, or services but a big room, great rate and a certain quirky style. With a decorator and some polish, this place would be very attractive. Be aware there is a college strip on one side of the hotel, and those kids seem to really celebrate the fact that they're going to school in Binghamton. It closed down fairly early on the weekday I was staying there though.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There's bars and restaurants right across the street but we ate at Zona & Co. Grille around the corner, which was less college-y than the pubs and clubs on the strip.

Panic Room

I could hear the bass pumping from across the street. Other patrons were cramming in to one room with loud knocks and talking in what I could only imagine was a under age hotel party. Everything was grimy and worn with little or no effort to create a cozy or warm feeling that an older hotel would/should be able to deliver.

Great bang for your buck!

We felt we were staying at a luxury hotel, at half the cost. The building was incredible. The room was spacious, with high ceilings. It was clean and comfortable. We were able to park our car and had several options for dinner, all within walking distance. Lovely, quaint town. The staff was extremely helpful. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling through the area.

Almost Royale

The Royale's strongest point is its location - in the old city hall and the very center of Binghamton. Otherwise, it reminds me of a 2nd tier hotel on a Paris side street. Unfortunately, Binghamton is not Paris. The rooms are cramped and a bit worn, as is the rest of the building. Think Red Roof Inn housed in an elegant late 19th century municipal palace.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

While Binghamton has several fine restaurants (e.g., Little Venice, No. 5), anyone who enjoys Italian cuisine should head to Endicott, less than 10 miles west on Rte 17. Consol's Oaks Inn, Nirchi's, or Tony's all offer pizza, pasta, and numerous meat dishes that can stand comparison to any in the world. If you want to drive another 10 miles, try Bud's in Appalachin -- some say it has surpassed Comsol's, long the standard of excellence in the area.

Should have driven further

Parking was difficult to find--there was a graduation going on. The room was nothing like the picture. Shabby drapes. Tiny. Had a little something to eat in the dining room--the waiter Eric was the best part of the stay. And the desk clerk was very helpful. Not worth the stay.

location to areana

The room was filthy, the bed not made, the blankets, comforter stained, too expensive for the room, no one at the desk when you check in, not signs for the front desk, hard to locate desk from back entrance, free breakfast stingy & awful, bar not open when time said it was, bars across the street noisy & cops showed up, alot of college kids party there.

beautiful place, good stay

The staff was super friendly and super helpful to me. The room was comfortable and enjoyable. The price was fantastic, especially since other chain hotels in the area charged much, much more. It was a beautiful historic building in an otherwise sketchy place (sorry folks, not a fan of Binghamton). My advice, though? Try to get a room away from the bar area and more towards the front of the hotel. Saturday night college kids party and scream ALL night in the streets and unless you are a deep, DEEP sleeper, you'll be awake. That's not the hotel's fault, of course, but the partiers ruin the otherwise pleasant experience.

There's a really good Chinese place down the block. I don't remember the name, but the front desk staff knows--they recommended it. Also, the hotel itself serves AWESOME cosmos!!
