In town to visit family, so did not use spa or casino. Lots of easy parking, good location, but requires car to get anywhere ... as Virgina is a somewhat seedy street. Had 1 breakfast & 1 nightcap on site during our stay - both were marginal quality and very expensive. Recommend Stone House Cafe, Ben's Fine Wine & Spirits as nearby alternatives. Beds where very comfortable. Rooms were quiet, had excellent temperature control and darkening curtains made sleeping-in very relaxing. Other's got better deal with on-line auction.

They know how to treat the low rollers
wolfgirl Nov 27, 2009
I have stayed twice at the Peppermill. My first time was quiet, clean, and enjoyful. I found some wonderful reseraunts ... around the place. My second stay, however, was horrible. To begin with, I booked a non-smoking room, but they gave me a smoking room. I admit I didn't fight it because I was tired and didn't think it would be that much of a problem. However, when we all ended up with allergies, it did become a problem. The second thing I was greeted with at the hotel other then the smoke reek of my room was the reek of pot. At least two rooms where getting so high it made the hall stink. The third problem came at four in the morning. The pot smokers, now drunk, started yelling in the hallway, and a large group of people congregated around the rooms, talking and laughing in loud voices. Me and at least seven other people asked them to be quiet. They refused. I even called security, which took thirty minutes to respond. The people where in the hall for an hour and security still missed them due to slow response. The last straw came the next day. I complained about the noise, the smell, my room, and the lack of response. I was told the noise makers were a bus group to bring in prospective clients and that the hotel management were very sorry my stay was unpleasent but they could do nothing about it. The manager in charge suddenly found himself in a meeting, and the man who took my complaint couldn't even look me in the eye. Essentially, what I learned about the Peppermill was this; larger purses get better service, but the low-rollers do not matter. If you come in with enough money, you can do whatever you want, even to the detriment of other guests, and the staff will do very little about it. My advice is, caveat emptor.

Mama of Three Nov 26, 2009
The spa tub was awesome until we started finding long, black hairs clinging to us. None of us have long, black hair. We ... also found a nasty, dirty men's tank top tucked up on the shelf in the closet. The thermostat was outdated and absolutely would not maintain a comfortable temperature so we were up several times at night adjusting it. [...] We asked the front desk for four extra pillows, as I am 3 weeks away from giving birth and need extra pillows to be comfortable at night. The most they would give us was two. We don't like to let little things ruin a good time though, so we had fun anyway.

A and S Nov 23, 2009
Just went for the conference and educational classes. Liked that toasters were available for the bagels at the continental ... breakfast table. Initially had a nice spa suite but it was close to the elevator and ice machine so I requested a move to a more quiet location. Staff was accommodating. Still a nice room, though not as large as the first one but the corner room has great views of the hotel pool and the mountains and was certainly very quiet. I appreciated the shuttle service (every half hour)to and from the hotel.

We visited Reno for a rockcrawling competition at Moonrocks, and rather than camping in the snow we decided to head back into ... town to stay at Peppermill. We are sure glad we did! When our reserved room was booked, we were happily given an upgraded room by a very friendly staff. After a cold, windblown day in the desert, the Jacuzzi spa was just what we needed to warm back up! The room was well-made-up and had plenty of towels, soap, and blankets. Our only criticism was the noise from rowdy people honking their car horns in the street. We highly recommend the Island Buffet - although expensive, the quality of food is worth it. There was plenty of choices to satisfy the big eaters as well as the healthy dieters. We will definitely be returning to Peppermill in the future!

THIS BECAUSE THEY HAVE A NICE HOTEL IT JUST SMELLS BAD ALL OVER WHICH MAKES IT VERY UNPLEASANT TO EAT AT, SLEEP, GAMBLE, OR WHATEVER EVEN SOME OF THE EMPLOYEES WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SMELL.ALL THAT MONEY THEY SPENT FIXING UP THIS HOTEL WHY THEY DIDN'T PUT SOME KIND OF VENTALATION SYSTEM IN TO TAKE THE SMOKE AWAY AND THE BAD SMELLS I HAVE NO IDEA. BECAUSE IT IS VERY UNPLEASANT TO SIT IN THERE. THEY REALLY COULD HAVE A REALLY NICE HOTEL IF THEY COULD JUST GET RID OF THE BAD SMELLS.

Awful check-in experience, nice room
BPCR Nov 16, 2009
Parked in the North parking lot near the "Oceano" gaming room, and walked for what seemed like a mile through the smoky, ... mirror and neon light festooned casino to the front desk. Our counter agent, [...], was like a drill-instructor, and demanded ID and credit card. We were walked through a four-page display of credit card and room disclosures on the credit card machine display (reading glasses required), and were charged an extra $10 (plus $1.30 in tax) for a "Resort Fee". What a rip off. Our room wasn't ready, and we were told to come back in an hour to check in. We ate in their coffee shop (excellent restaurant) and returned shortly after 3 to pick up our keys. We waited in a very long line, about 15 minutes, and were told our room still wasn't ready. Our agent offered no apology, no recompense, no free drink in the bar, no offer for a room upgrade. When she missed the opportunity to offer, we inquired about it, and were flatly and rudely denied. We gave up, and went to our convention, leaving our stuff in our car, hoping it wouldn't get stolen while we were inside, seeing as how we weren't able to store our luggage at the hotel. So, all told, we spent about an hour attempting to check into the hotel. I will say, when we finally made it to the room, the room was very nice. Clean, high-end furnishings, and quiet. The physical room was the one shining star of the stay. Other reviewers mentioned long walks to anywhere in the Peppermill, and I experienced this, too. Bring comfortable walking shoes. The other casino hotels I've stayed in in Reno went out of their way to make the customer happy. The Peppermill seemed to do everything they could to p*** me off. Some of the $400 million they spent on expansion would have been better spent on teaching good customer service to the employees. Will never stay there again.
