3-Day Getaway

The location of the property is withing walking distance to everything. However, walking to everything, due to the super-sized casinos was quite a trek. I prefer to stay at the Westin because getting to your room was NOT a 3-mile hike through a parking structure, then another 5-mile hike to the front counter, and then finally, another 4-mile hike to find your room. The room was above average, typical SPG, great bed and bathroom. I love the free wi-fi and free bottled water! The only negative was the dirty carpeting and beat-up walls and popcorn ceiling; it obviously needs updating, but the filth is typical of Las Vegas properties.

Better than most in Las Vegas

I was surprised to see that the hotel advertised that it's a smoke free hotel at the entrances, but then I was soon disappointed once I entered. They allow smoking inside!?!? Vegas loop hole? Why advertise it? Other than that, the hotel was great, except for the strange burns on the hotel room carpet (big nasty ones). Oh yeah, the bar is ridiculous. They charged me $20+ dollars for a beer and a lemon drop. Too much!!! Some positives to mention... -great parking -good pool with extended hours (closes at 3am or 24hrs?) -good walking access to Vegas strip -cleaner than anything in Vegas (not saying much!)

Quiet oasis close to the strip

We chose this hotel because of the heavenly beds and because it was close enough to the strip (about an 8-minute walk), yet not right on the strip, so we could get some peace and quiet. The staff was great and we got plenty of tips to find some good food off the beaten path. Also, the hotel is close enough to the airport to get a cab and skip the shuttle service that is often offered when booking through a third party.

My Business Trip Nightmare!

I have never seen anything like this!!!I My first room had a safe that not even the hotel technician could open and reeked of mold even though I was told the carpet was changed the month before I arrived! I was charged a $50/day room damage deposit to my Debit card and no one told me about it. I turned on the shower once I checked in and my room filled up with a cloud! I later found out that the mechanical ventilation breaker had been accidentally disconnected by the Internet service provider. That set off three CO alarms in addition to creating all of the mold spores in my room And that was just the beginning... I later also learned that the pool had collapsed into the lobby! How did that happen?!?! Needless to say, I did not go swimming at all. I was given a second room to stay in, but the room key didn't work! I missed 1.5 days of my international business owner's meeting because of the problems I had - during only 2 nights there! When I complained about my third room I was assigned on my second day at this Westin (working safe, but the safe was not bolted to anything, and could be carried out on the room by anyone), and had asked to speak directly to the GM (she never came out of the back office), I demanded a full refund for my four nights. Instead I was told that I was no longer welcome, and that I had to check out. What?!?! I already WAS checking out, and I wanted a full refund! Instead they kept a hold on my debit Visa for the damage deposit of $200 ($50 times 4 nights) that didn't clear until I had already flown back east! 4 car burglaries in 2 nights (thank GOD I didn't rent a vehicle on this trip)! 2 rooms with mold, damaged furniture, including a desk that looked like a frat party had opened every beer bottle on the edge of it!!! DO NOT STAY HERE! NOT A SAFE PLACE TO STAY!

It happened in Vegas

In Vegas one expects the casinos at every turn. This hotel was, of course, no exception. In order to get to the registration desk, you have to walk through a maze of slot machines, smokers, and the bar. It's the same at all hotels in Las Vegas, but not something I like having to do. Room was clean and comfortable, large construction site outside my window wasn't the nicest view nor was the beeping of the construction machines as they backed up every few minutes. Toilet didn't shut off by itself and facet leaked, had to contact front desk, who were nice about it and fixed it AND gave me a credit on the room for my trouble. Staff was very courteous and respectful even if I'm not a high roller! Check out was easy. Location was good, close to the "strip", but not too close, so it was relatively quiet at night.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

If you are at a hotel, you don't have to pay hotel prices for lunches and dinners. Just walk a bit down the strip and there are numerous places offering better deals to get your business. Some are just off the strip too, so head down a side street just to see! That's what I did and I saved usually about $5 to $10 per meal.

BEWARE HIDDEN FEES!

The hotel was well located for me as I was attending a conference in the hotel. It is just off the main drag and a short walk to the casinos. The staff is friendly and the restaurant was good. The room quality was sub standard for a Westin class hotel. It is like an old HI that they dressed up. The first night the heat did not work and they had to call engineering to fix it the next day. Most troubling was the hidden "Hotel Services Fee & Tax" that is tacked on to the cost of the hotel. Shoppers should beware that this cost is over and above what Orb will charge you. You can expect an additional $13/night for this fee. I find this hidden fee practice deceptive and I will not return or recommend this hotel to anyone.

Not my favorite cup of tea!

This hotel was very disappointing, especially for a Westin. It is "old" with some updates. The TV was an old Zenith tube type...Not even a flat screen LCD. My room overlooked the roof of the lower part of the hotel. Noisy condensers, et al. The internet connection, operated by Cox, failed twice and changed the access password twice within 24 hours. Useless. I travel extensively and have stayed at many Westin hotels worldwide. This hotel is not worthy of Westin.
