It happened in Vegas

In Vegas one expects the casinos at every turn. This hotel was, of course, no exception. In order to get to the registration desk, you have to walk through a maze of slot machines, smokers, and the bar. It's the same at all hotels in Las Vegas, but not something I like having to do. Room was clean and comfortable, large construction site outside my window wasn't the nicest view nor was the beeping of the construction machines as they backed up every few minutes. Toilet didn't shut off by itself and facet leaked, had to contact front desk, who were nice about it and fixed it AND gave me a credit on the room for my trouble. Staff was very courteous and respectful even if I'm not a high roller! Check out was easy. Location was good, close to the "strip", but not too close, so it was relatively quiet at night.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

If you are at a hotel, you don't have to pay hotel prices for lunches and dinners. Just walk a bit down the strip and there are numerous places offering better deals to get your business. Some are just off the strip too, so head down a side street just to see! That's what I did and I saved usually about $5 to $10 per meal.

BEWARE HIDDEN FEES!

The hotel was well located for me as I was attending a conference in the hotel. It is just off the main drag and a short walk to the casinos. The staff is friendly and the restaurant was good. The room quality was sub standard for a Westin class hotel. It is like an old HI that they dressed up. The first night the heat did not work and they had to call engineering to fix it the next day. Most troubling was the hidden "Hotel Services Fee & Tax" that is tacked on to the cost of the hotel. Shoppers should beware that this cost is over and above what Orb will charge you. You can expect an additional $13/night for this fee. I find this hidden fee practice deceptive and I will not return or recommend this hotel to anyone.

Not my favorite cup of tea!

This hotel was very disappointing, especially for a Westin. It is "old" with some updates. The TV was an old Zenith tube type...Not even a flat screen LCD. My room overlooked the roof of the lower part of the hotel. Noisy condensers, et al. The internet connection, operated by Cox, failed twice and changed the access password twice within 24 hours. Useless. I travel extensively and have stayed at many Westin hotels worldwide. This hotel is not worthy of Westin.

Got Robbed at this Westin.

Beware I got robbed at the Westin Casuarina. My Fiancée and I were awakened at 6:30AM to a maid unannounced in our room facing away from us toward the dresser. She was startled and asked if we need anything from housekeeping. We said no. Housekeeping came back about 8:30 and knocked this time. I found it strange that a maid entered the room at 6:30 and didn't knock, called down to the front desk and they gave me a 12 dollar credit. When I was getting ready to check out that day I noticed my wallet and all my cash was gone from the same dresser that maid was standing over. Reported to the front desk who notified security and filled out a report. Security shift supervisor Terry was a really good guy. Investigated the swipe history of the door lock as well as housekeeping staff for that night. The 2 maids on staff that shift did not match the description of the woman that was in our room at 6:30AM. Turns out the door wasn't working properly and didn't close all the way. The woman didn't work for the Westin and he confirmed that we had been robbed. Here is the suspicious part. The woman had the same uniform as the other housekeepers which my Fiancée got a good look at and gave a perfect description of the woman (They refused to review video surveilence). Second, our room was on the 12th floor toward the end of the hallway. She knew exactly where to go. If she wasn't a current employee she most certainly knew our door didn't work properly so she worked there before or a current employee was in on it. I got a call from the director of security and an email from the GM threatening to sue me for this review saying there was nothing wrong with thier door and saying I "Declared war against the property by posting this review before giving them a chance to investigate (I gave them a week with no call)'. They have opted to deny any responsibilibilty or the fact they have a security issue, instead victimizing me further and questioning the validity of the incident saying that there was no proof it happened other than mine and my fiancee's statements. So unprofessional.

Nice hotel but needs upgrading. Would not call it an upscale hotel when compared to the "big boys". Very friendly & accommodating staff. Rooms clean and typical size, nothing exciting. Wish Wi-Fi was free. Very nice spa and ok gym. Good thing within reasonable walking distance to Bally, Paris, etc. because not really a hotel for "gaming" but for "staying". Able to see New Year's fireworks if go to top floor.

Doesn't deserve 4 stars!

I definitely hated the Westin chain after my last experience. One of the rooms smelled bad and they couldn't find another room for me and had to suck it up!

A good

I attended a conference at the hotel. the conference room was small but that was all that was required. The hotel facility was on par with good business hotels. They have a nice spa and a decent workout room (4 treadmills, 3 bikes, 3 ellipticals, 4 weight machines) that was surprisingly empty. The pool was nice. The gambling tables were nice, but they are only open 3pm until 3am except weekends. To make up for this, though, they have $5 blackjack tables and there was never a wait. Its a small casino. The restaurant had good food, maybe a bit more expensive, but no buffet. Good business lunches tho and fairly fast. There really isnt any shopping there either. Bally's is a short walk down the road, and bellagio of course is right across the streat. I like that these places were a 5 min walk away, cause it allowed me to more focus on the conference. If you want to go there for business or a meeting, the Westin was great. If you want to be away from the strip but can get there by walking, it was also a good place. If you want the whole vegas gambling experience, this wasnt really the place. Those ppl should be looking at Bellagio or MGM anyways.

Good off-strip location

The website lists the hotel as smoke-free, which is why I booked it, but the casino inside the lobby allows smoking. Disingenuous wording for sure.
