Stratosphere's Air Bar is currently the highest bar in the city - at 800 feet - and offers views across the infamous Vegas skyline, but you will require a reservation, because access can be tricky on busy nights. If a rebellious alternative is more your thing, why not simply drop down just one floor to the Level 107 Lounge? Enjoy the same vista over 'bright light city' without the crowds.
General
Stratosphere Casino Hotel and Tower, Las Vegas
Location
The Stratosphere Casino Hotel and Tower is often the first glimpse travelers get of the vibrant city of Las Vegas, since it can be seen clearly not only from McCarran International Airport (LAS), but from the seclusion of Red Rock Canyon some 20 miles away. Stay at 'The Strat' for an 80,000-square-foot casino, complete with a wide range of table games and video slots, a revolving restaurant, adrenaline-pumping thrill rides and a wedding chapel for the rapturously impulsive.  And whether it's dining at Zagat-rated restaurants, taking a dip in the crystal clear pools, or even shopping at the on-site magic store with dreams of emulating Las Vegas' magicians Penn & Teller, no traveler could get bored in this mini metropolis.

Rooms
Situated roughly halfway between the hustle and bustle of 'new' Vegas, with state-of-the-art complexes such as CityCenter, and classic 'old' Vegas - the city from the Bugsy Siegel era - the Stratosphere provides guests with the best of both worlds. Mix the glamor of 'The Strip' with the old-time romance of Fremont Street, and witness an amazing, overhead, free light show occurring every evening.
Highlights

Along with its iconic tower, visible throughout the valley, the Stratosphere boasts an outdoor pool, a casino with the full gamut of table games and video slot machines, a popular nightclub and bars. In the spirit of Las Vegas magicians Penn & Teller, the magic shop downstairs offers tricks for illusionists of all ages. All guests receive free keys to the tower and a free ride on the SkyJump, a controlled free fall from the 108th floor fast enough to blur neon. The Stratosphere Casino Hotel and Tower has fine dining, great gaming and death-defying thrill rides, all within a short drive of classic Downtown and Fremont Street attractions like the Arts District and the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in nearby Symphony Park.

Fees

The property charges a Resort Fee of $17.99 USD plus 12% tax per room, per night for a total of $20.15 USD. Amenities include unlimited admission for up to 4 guests per room to the Stratosphere Tower's indoor and outdoor observation decks, use of the fitness centre and seasonal pool and parking (valet or covered self-park available).

Cheap but far from the strip

I didn't realize trying to save money on the hotel would come at the cost of paying for more cabs and buses... it's a bit far from the strip but closer to downtown if that's where you want to be. Otherwise, it's a decent hotel with the basics, not a lot of good food options... let's just say I don't want any McDonald's for awhile!

Enjoyed the Buffet - Get the day pass!

I was coming and going all day from the hotel, and wanted to be able to eat meals and snacks quickly but nutritiously. For less than $33 including tax, a person can get a "day pass" to the buffet for big meals or quick coffee and snacks. I didn't encounter much of a wait in line to be seated most times. The people in the buffet were very nice too.

Great Deal!

The Stratosphere was clean and a good value. The rooms were nice, the rides fun, and the views spectacular. A little too far north on the strip though, but if you don't mind the walk or bus, it's worth it!

Reasonable way to stay in Vegas when booked in advance

Hotel was pleasant. The location is a bit offset from the main attractions of the strip, but walking or taking a cab worked out well.

low budget

The room was dirty. The front desk attempted to give us a special needs room although neither of us had any handicap. I felt as a gay couple, we were snubbed! The room and pool were in terrible condition, and in great need of updating.

Average Stay

Fairly easy check in, 10 minute wait on a Friday night. Friendly staff. Room was slightly better than I expected for the price. Clean, comfortable, decent view. Room service never answered, the hotel was completely booked and you could tell. I would probably stay here again because it's a good value and the room was clean.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Park on level 3 in the garage if at all possible. You have to go to this level anyway to use the bridge to the hotel, so save yourself more walking and another elevator ride.

very dissapointing

The room was out dated, dirty and not up to our standards. There were absolutely no extras. The bottom line is the hotel is more like a motel and needs a drastic remodel. Not a single pool cabana is located with a view of the pool ... you need to get a professional to take a look at how to improve the overall looks. :(
