The Stratosphere Casino Hotel and Tower is often the first glimpse travelers get of the vibrant city of Las Vegas, since it can be seen clearly not only from McCarran International Airport (LAS), but from the seclusion of Red Rock Canyon some 20 miles away. Stay at 'The Strat' for an 80,000-square-foot casino, complete with a wide range of table games and video slots, a revolving restaurant, adrenaline-pumping thrill rides and a wedding chapel for the rapturously impulsive.  And whether it's dining at Zagat-rated restaurants, taking a dip in the crystal clear pools, or even shopping at the on-site magic store with dreams of emulating Las Vegas' magicians Penn & Teller, no traveler could get bored in this mini metropolis.

Neighborhood
Situated roughly halfway between the hustle and bustle of 'new' Vegas, with state-of-the-art complexes such as CityCenter, and classic 'old' Vegas - the city from the Bugsy Siegel era - the Stratosphere provides guests with the best of both worlds. Mix the glamor of 'The Strip' with the old-time romance of Fremont Street, and witness an amazing, overhead, free light show occurring every evening.
Hints and tips
Stratosphere's Air Bar is currently the highest bar in the city - at 800 feet - and offers views across the infamous Vegas skyline, but you will require a reservation, because access can be tricky on busy nights. If a rebellious alternative is more your thing, why not simply drop down just one floor to the Level 107 Lounge? Enjoy the same vista over 'bright light city' without the crowds.

Rent a Car and Stay There

The neighborhood is really bad and unsafe, but we rent a car and drive right out. The rooms are so inexpensive you can afford to rent a car with the savings. Parking is free. The fitness room is nice and is included in the daily hotel resort fee. We've been staying here for years.

Vanilla Flavor

Its ok ok hotel..... Noting really special about. Rooms were not that clean... it only had bed and a table... No fridge, no microwave..... Bathrooms were ok..... Staff are rude... dont bother asking them anything..... Rooms were so bald and simple, we didnt get to experience the "vegas experience".. my advice... if u absolutely want to go cheap, go with this hotel.... otherwise look for a better room.

For a climber on a budget, the Stratosphere crushes.

Let's face it: you're a climber. You want to climb, drink and sleep during your trip. That's all. Why spend more money to stay in the heart of the strip when you can crash at the Stratosphere for less and have almost no traffic to deal with getting on to Charleston (the only street you need to know if you're climbing at Red Rock)? The rooms are comfy, the beds are nice and everything's clean. Their no-smoking rooms are actually smoke-free -- awesome! If you're not going to Vegas for the Strip experience, stay north of the Strip at the Stratosphere and get a great hotel and casino with everything you need for less.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Viva Las Arepas is a Venezuelan joint just a couple of blocks north of the Stratosphere. Serving anything from Venezuelan style BBQ to awesome street food (arepas FTW!), they cater to meat eaters and veggies alike. Portions are bigger than you expect (it's easy to over-order), and the food is amazing and cheap! Highly recommended.

Great Stay

The price and overall environment was great. The only downer is that it is so far from the main portion of the strip that we took a cab every time we went somewhere. The cab average $10-20 one way. No problems with the hotel itself.

Walking a little before getting in a cab will save you a few bucks here and there that add up.

The Stratosphere

The hotel was exactly what I expected for the price we paid. It was pretty nice. The shops were fun and the pool was nice and in a good location. I didn't use the spa, but my daughter and her friends who also stayed at the hotel did. The hairdresser was really good. The make-up artist wasn't so good. The restaurants and buffet were really fun and had excellent food. The staff was helpful but not pushy. All in all we had a great stay.
