The Stratosphere Casino Hotel and Tower is often the first glimpse travelers get of the vibrant city of Las Vegas, since it can be seen clearly not only from McCarran International Airport (LAS), but from the seclusion of Red Rock Canyon some 20 miles away. Stay at 'The Strat' for an 80,000-square-foot casino, complete with a wide range of table games and video slots, a revolving restaurant, adrenaline-pumping thrill rides and a wedding chapel for the rapturously impulsive.  And whether it's dining at Zagat-rated restaurants, taking a dip in the crystal clear pools, or even shopping at the on-site magic store with dreams of emulating Las Vegas' magicians Penn & Teller, no traveler could get bored in this mini metropolis.

Neighborhood
Situated roughly halfway between the hustle and bustle of 'new' Vegas, with state-of-the-art complexes such as CityCenter, and classic 'old' Vegas - the city from the Bugsy Siegel era - the Stratosphere provides guests with the best of both worlds. Mix the glamor of 'The Strip' with the old-time romance of Fremont Street, and witness an amazing, overhead, free light show occurring every evening.
Hints and tips
Stratosphere's Air Bar is currently the highest bar in the city - at 800 feet - and offers views across the infamous Vegas skyline, but you will require a reservation, because access can be tricky on busy nights. If a rebellious alternative is more your thing, why not simply drop down just one floor to the Level 107 Lounge? Enjoy the same vista over 'bright light city' without the crowds.

Was a good place to stay

Bedsides the bathroom being a little dated, our room and service was top notch. Dealers had no problem trying to help you win when you are tipping. Eating at the stratosphere above the strip was a good time and not to expensive.

Three days at the Stratosphere

The Stratosphere is located at the far north end of the strip, which means a longer taxi ride and further from the airport and other places on the strip. However, the view from the top makes the hotel an excellent choice. We were glad to have a rented car to make getting around easier. Parking at the Stratosphere was no problem. Our room in the tower was spacious and comfortable and should have warranted a higher than average rating, but when a person is given a smoking room complete with ashtray and matches and told it is a non-smoking room, a three for overall was hardly correct. The smoke smell was a real deterrent. Also our son was given a room on the same floor but on another hall even though we requested to be billeted next to each other. 21 and 51 are not next door. The highlight of our time in Las Vegas was taking a bus to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, taking a helicopter ride to the bottom and boating on the Colorado River. We were picked up and returned to our hotel. We also enjoyed our tour of the Hoover Dam, the water show at the Bellagio, and the light show on the original strip - Fremont Street.

The Mandalay Bay international buffet was well worth the price. Outstanding food and such a variety in a beautiful setting. The Palace Station had an excellent breakfast buffet for the money.

Stratosphere Experience

Experience at hotel was good. The food was really really good @ the Buffet and Roxy's Diner. Didn't eat at any other restaurants there. The tower was super fun and enjoyable. Great pool on the 8th floor. Parking was easy. Not easy to move around through the casino from one area to another.

"No need for wake-up calls"

The casino was nice, the location was very sleezy. No need for a wake-up call, because the construction on the floor above us started at 8:00 a.m. every day on schedule. The hotel registration line had no order whatsoever. The maid on our floor was rude and nasty. All we wanted was clean sheets (go figure).....

Stratosphere Casino Hotel & Tower

The hotel is average for Vegas. Do not expect to lounge around in your room, except to lay on the bed. The low end rooms and their surroundings are designed to get you down to the casinos. It has a few interesting attractions of its own. There was construction going on up on the 24th floor, noise was bleeding through to the 21st floor during the day. But when you had a late night of it, sleeping in was a bit dicey. This is a nice choice for a budget stay, but if you can afford more consider going to a hotel more in the middle of the strip.

Time-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

If you rent a car, drive to your destinations rather than take the Ace / Deuce bus system. The bus works fairly well during the day, but at night you may have to wait to get a ride. Most hotels have valet parking where it is expected that you only tip the valet returning your car ($2-$3 is typical), and free self parking.
