Great stay...
I was attending a conference at the Sands. This was my first time staying off the strip. My company booked us here due to the great rate available. It was fabulous. Service was first rate. The room was large and clean. Food from throughout the hotel was good tasting and reasonably priced. Access to the airport was easy through the shuttle. Rides to the strip were a cab ride away (about $5-10 depending on where we were going) if we didn't want to use the shuttle. The spa service was very nice and relaxing. The only improvement was the in room thermostat was set at 63 degrees and the room never got cold. It was comfortable enough but I like a cool room.

Good Quality at a Great Value!
The Rio was very clean and the staff was friendly including the waitresses/waiters in the casino. The rooms are cheap and very good quality. I was impressed at how spacious our standard 1 queen bedroom was. It actually had two separate vanity/sinks areas so my husband and I had our own sink to use to get ready. The only downside was that there aren't any fast food or cheap food places near and the restaurants in the hotel are kind of pricey, but since the hotel offers free shuttles to the strip, you can go there anytime to eat at a cheap fast food or restaurant. We never had any trouble catching a shuttle since they come every 30 minutes. We also took the free shuttle to the various shows we went to see on the strip so we saved a lot in cab money. We ate at McFaddins in the Rio twice since it was the cheapest restaurant in the hotel. The food there was good and the staff was friendly. Their prices were comparable to Chilis. The Voodoo lounge in the hotel is cool since it has a rooftop view that is considered the best view of the strip in Las Vegas. We went up there just to take pictures and it was amazing. I definitely recommend this hotel.

Money-saving tip:
Short drive from hotel
Take the free shuttles that the Rio offers to it's sister hotels on the strip because you will save a ton in cab money. The cab fares are very expensive so I liked the free shuttles. They ran every 30 minutes and the drivers were friendly. We took the shuttles to the strip and ate there since the strip has cheaper restaurants and fast food like McDonalds, Chipotle, Subway etc.

Exceeded expectations!
We had such a wonderful experience at the Rio, the rooms (we booked two) were so much more than we expected especially from a hotel that is "off the strip". The rooms were clean, roomy and well supplied. Love the lotion! Shuttles are available if walking the few blocks to the strip doesn't suit you. The check in process can be long if a convention is being held. Yikes. Can't wait for a return trip...really!

Less than ideal setup for business
Less than ideal setup for business persons to do any work in the room. No desk and limited internet accessibility. I had a wobbly table in my room, not suitable for a comfortable work space. Many hotels in Vegas do a better job
