My grown children loved the Rio
Vegas Regular Dec 21, 2009
Family vacation for my grown children. My son turned 21 and wanted to go to Vegas. We have stayed in the Rio in the past and ... have loved it. This trip was great, the young adults loved it for it's modern look and feel. We love it cause it's just far enough away from the strip not to get caught in the Strip traffic unless we want to be in it. My daughter loved it because of the clean update rooms.

check-in was faster than my last stay at the horrible Imperial Palace. They didn't have any more nonsmoking king rooms, so ... they gave us a "handicap accessible" room, which took away the bath and had bars everywhere, but otherwise was the same as a normal room. The room was very quiet, we had an excellent view, and the room was clean. There are many elevators so you don't have to wait too long for a ride. The restaurants are first class with excellent food. Not on the strip but within blocks and a quick cab ride or you can take their shuttle. We had a rental car and learned how to drive down the back roads to get to any casino and avoid the strip and all its traffic. Overall a great stay!

Try the "steak house" at circus circus. Unknown to most, you would never expect a restaurant of this caliber at that hotel, but its in the league of the finest steak houses, and the filet is the best I've ever had! Petit filet is $37 with salad and side, most dishes are under $50 but the food is just amazing. My blue cheese salad dressing had more blue cheese chunks than it had dressing -- very high quality.

Review for first time vegas travelers
helpful travler Dec 8, 2009
The rio is a great casino hotel. If it is your first time to Vegas I would not suggest it though. Get something on the strip ... "Las Vegas blvd." and visit the Rio while you are there. Off strip gets complicated with travel, "too far to walk = cabs" there are shuttles but they stop running at 1am and I would not rely on them, they fill up very quickly. Little things you would not think about effect off strip, like a room with no microwave = expensive hotel food due to isolated off strip location. The hotel is great, and is geared toward the "sin" in sin city with dancers and near nothing uniforms. There is also a great VIP bar on the roof "floor 51" which is a must see even if you are not staying there. It costs $20 but hang out on the casino floor, a host will give you free passes eventually. If you are an experienced Vegas traveler then check it out. I'm sure you know how to deal with the shuttles, splitting taxis, and food deals better than a first timer. Warnng: This is not a family hotel, try Excalaber or even Circus Circus even though it's a bit run down it is great for families with young children.

Theresa Dec 1, 2009
The check in person was not very friendly. When I made a comment about wanting a room with a good view, I got no response. ... Not even a smile. She just did her thing and then pointed us in the direction of our room. No view at all. In the mornings the maid wanted to just walk right in. No knock and wait to see if someone was there. They could of heard the tv if they would of listened. One day it was barely 8:00 when they tried to come in, and that time they didn't even knock. The price was right this trip to stay at the Rio. We have looked at staying there several times, but it was quite a bit more. This is the first time that we have stayed off the strip. We didn't like that. It was a hassle to either get in the car or the shuttle when you wanted to leave. We had a frig in the room, but it barely got our beverages cool. No place on it to change the setting.

We did most of our dining off the strip. The buffets etc. are just getting too expensive. We found we could get a better deal going to places on busy roads like Flamingo & Sahara.

Videoman Nov 30, 2009
The hotel was clean but the rooms were a little outdated. It is a couple of blocks off the strip and off the highway so you ... can't walk to the strip, BUT they have a shuttle that runs to Paris and to Harrah's on the strip for free! They have several restaurants that were fairly good but pricey. The Rio has Penn & Teller and their show was great. I bought tickets to shows at Half Price Tickets and it saved me $50 on a single ticket. Overall a good experience.

Goldenbear Nov 30, 2009
Difficult to find parking area and hotel check-in desk when first arrived. Casino area is very smokey. Even our non-smoking ... room smelled of smoke on the last day. Very reasonable rate and got a very nice, very large room. Was shocked when got bill for lunch buffet receipt on Friday after Thanksgiving to find they were charging the rate for the Sunday Champagne Brunch Buffet instead of the much lower lunch buffet rate.
Traveler type: Family
Hunt for the almost hidden price for the day of the buffet as may be higher than expected. They charged the higher Sunday Champage Brunch price on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday all day on Thanksgiving weekend. Only one of the restaurants and the buffet ever serves breakfast.

Discounting the very noisy room and the Rio's inability to move us after making a request on the second day, this must be the ... oddest hotel room I have stopped in. The rooms are huge but are not furnished to suit, a massive television which is at right angles to the seating area and the bed cannot be viewed from either. Also the room is fitted out with a kitchen sink, why? If you want access to the rest of Las Vegas it is a 15 minute walk to the strip so think carefully before booking here you would most probably be better going on the strip for an ordinary room not a suite at the Rio. Will not be going back. PS Las Vegas is great

Very Happy Traveler Nov 23, 2009
I was looking for a last minute hotel in Vegas and found a good deal at the Rio, pretty much just looking for somewhere to ... sleep before my flight out of town. When I arrived at the hotel for check-in, the front desk staff I spoke to confirmed the details of my reservation then said, "I think we can take of you." I thought he was just talking about checking me in on my reservation, not exactly. He made a quick phone call and when he hung up, he told me they were going to upgrade me. I'm thinking this is pretty cool, and then he starts describing my upgrade and I realize this is beyond cool, this is awesome! They upgraded me to a suite in the Ipanema tower, on the 20th floor, that you need a key card in the elevator to access. The suite had a jacuzzi tub, a shower big enough for 2 people, a TV in the mirror in the bathroom, an extremely comfortable king sized bed, tons of marble, it was very decadent feeling. Even the drapes were opened by light switched on the wall. Opening, I might add, to a great view of Las Vegas. I was only there for one night, but I really enjoyed staying in luxury that usually costs about 10 times my budget. Thanks Rio for a wonderful memory!!!

My stay was for personal/family business, so I was alone. I am not a gambler, but chose this hotel because I was familiar ... with it from past visits to LV. I knew the rooms were spacious, had ethernet connection and, as an off-strip hotel, it was easy to get to and from it by car. The hotel rate was riduculously low and there is no resort fee. As a single woman, I was comfortable that my needs for security and safety could be met there. My room was up to date and lovely. I ate twice at the Gaylord (Indian) restaurant and enjoyed both meals. The Sao Paulo cafe is fine. Staff was friendly and professional.

I was in Vegas for a Convention and I travel to Vegas at least once a year. I have always enjoyed staying at the Rio All ... Suite Hotel and Casino. This trip was no different. If I had to critique one item though it would have to be the small numbers of Waitresses and Waiters on the Casino floor. We went for our son's 21st birthday. The front desk staff bent over backwards to give us early check in, they were ... efficient and friendly and very accommodating. The staff at the Sao Paulo cafe was awesome and friendly. The room staff were pleasant and always greeted us. Overall, we really like the RIO, however, they cater so much to their diamond star clients that they get priority over everyone, even the shuttle service. If you've waited for 30 minutes and they just walk up, they get on before you which I don't think is fair at all. The drinks are a little pricy, but the food was reasonable and very good, the Seafood Buffet is AWESOME.

Rio is not the all night playground I needed it to be. I paid full price for every single drink during the 5 night stay, and was asked if I was "alright" 3 out of 4 times that I ordered. AND I wasn't really drinking that much, so questions like that from unfriendly staff members made me feel very unwelcome. The only smile came from a kind young lady in the Masquerade Bar, who I gathered was an independant contractor and NOT Rio staff. If you are planning on clubbing/ partying every night, and don't have your own reliable connection, consider one of the companies that arranges VIP access to venues like LAX or Tao, its worth the added expense to actually enjoy yourself. I did not try the shuttle to the strip, nor the VooDoo lounge (fear of glass elevators,) but my cohorts thought highly of the club on the 51st Floor. Save your big tips for Housekeeping and Bellhop/Valet services. Also, the front desk staff is not forthcoming with info (if you're a beginner, you will miss out) so ask alot of questions.
