The New York New York Hotel Las Vegas was opened in 1997, at a time when Las Vegas enjoyed a spate of newly-designed themed hotels. The resort is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International, and a stay at the New York New York really is uncannily like taking a leisurely stroll through the Big Apple itself. Gaze up at the magnificent Statue of Liberty replica overlooking the Las Vegas Strip, ride the Big Apple Coaster (reminiscent of Coney Island's heyday) or dine at Nathan's Famous Hot Dog. Evening entertainment is provided by the internationally-renowned Cirque du Soleil in their sensual show Zumanity; why not enjoy a fruity pre-show Manhattan cocktail at the Bar at Times Square beforehand? Get into the real spirit of Vegas at the 1,500 slots and 67 gaming tables within the 84,000-square-foot casino.

Neighborhood
The NY-NY, as it's known locally, is situated just north of McCarran Airport and the famous 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas' road sign. There's so much to do at the resort that decisions become tough, but it's simple to travel to other parts of the Strip, either on foot via monorail, or by taking the Deuce -a bus service that travels along Las Vegas Boulevard all the way to Fremont Street -where visitors can witness free sparkling light shows in the evenings.
Hints and tips
Celebrating a special occasion while vacationing in Las Vegas? Pop a bottle of NY-NY branded champagne, available exclusively on hotel grounds. Just let the staff know and they'll make sure it's chilled, ready and waiting for you when you check in (fees apply).

Getaway with friends

upgraded to the second form the bottom room, from the cheapest one, and it was very nice. Very clean and quiet. Excellent service and view from our room. Roller coaster is only ok. Am a coaster enthusiast and this one is average at best.

Fairly decent hotel at reasonable price

Hotel price was decent but room wasn't as nice as we had expected. The room was clean but furnishings were average. The beds were small and not very comfortable. Housekeeping service was good. Compared to other hotels we've stayed at on the Vegas strip, this was at or below average. The restaurants/bars and casino were great though.

New York is big and friendly.

Great front desk staff and bell people. The America restaurant is open 24 hours and have a great staff. I love the location, it is near all the major attractions. Very family friendly. The bad TV and weak remote are a minus for family travelers. The batchroom was adequate, but definitely nothing to write home about. All in all, I will easily reccomend it to my friends.

excellent value

My stay at New York New York was enjoyable, however I didn't realize you could hear the roller coaster and screaming people from the rooms. The room was very clean and comfortable. It would have been great if there was a restaurant open all night (other than the hot dog stand!)

Fun hotel, great location

This hotel is in nearly the best location in Las Vegas, across from MGM Grand [which seems to always have the shows I want to see, and great restaurants] and handy to other top resorts. New York New York is owned by the same company as MGM Grand, so if you get a casino card, it'll work in both places and some other resorts too. Had fun in the casino, played in the twice-weekly blackjack tournament. Upside: Empty fitness center -- on my two late-afternoon visits to lift weights, I had the run of the place. Treadmills, stationary bikes and cross-trainers were unused. Staff said this was normal -- I guess people aren't into fitness. Good for me, though. I had the excellent sauna and steam room to myself. Was too cool in second week of November for the pool, though it was open. Pool looked only average-size for Las Vegas; maybe this hotel isn't the place to go if the pool is your main thing. Downside: Thin walls in hotel rooms aggravating if your neighbors want to party at 4 a.m. And I wish hotels would knock it off with stuff like the mandatory daily $3 "phone charge" -- just fold it into the price of the room, OK? If you want to pay more, NY NY has an optional daily $7 "resort fee" that covers the phone, a daily newspaper and some other items; I skipped it.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

I'm a cyclist, and on two days I rented a bicycle from Las Vegas Cyclery on West Charleston Blvd., about 8-9 miles from the hotel. There's a great loop ride, about 33 miles, from the bike shop out to Red Rock Canyon and back. Rental cost is about $60 a day for a speedy carbon racing bike; they'll rent a helmet too [I brought my own]. If you don't bike, Red Rock and Valley of Fire State Park are worth the trip by car; both places also have good, easy day hikes.
