The New York New York Hotel Las Vegas was opened in 1997, at a time when Las Vegas enjoyed a spate of newly-designed themed hotels. The resort is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International, and a stay at the New York New York really is uncannily like taking a leisurely stroll through the Big Apple itself. Gaze up at the magnificent Statue of Liberty replica overlooking the Las Vegas Strip, ride the Big Apple Coaster (reminiscent of Coney Island's heyday) or dine at Nathan's Famous Hot Dog. Evening entertainment is provided by the internationally-renowned Cirque du Soleil in their sensual show Zumanity; why not enjoy a fruity pre-show Manhattan cocktail at the Bar at Times Square beforehand? Get into the real spirit of Vegas at the 1,500 slots and 67 gaming tables within the 84,000-square-foot casino.

The NY-NY, as it's known locally, is situated just north of McCarran Airport and the famous 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas' road sign. There's so much to do at the resort that decisions become tough, but it's simple to travel to other parts of the Strip, either on foot via monorail, or by taking the Deuce -a bus service that travels along Las Vegas Boulevard all the way to Fremont Street -where visitors can witness free sparkling light shows in the evenings.

Tiny bathroom and bad ventilation

Long long wait for check in, hotel looks under-staffed; The bathroom has very bad ventilation; and our room doen't even come with a small fridge for beverages ($27 extra if we need one), plus there's a mandatory $3 extra charge per day for phone even if you don't use it.

Don't try their Italian, pricey, bad service and overall poor quality food. For good food, take the tram to Mandaly bay.

New York, New York, A Heck of a Hotel

The purpose of my trip was recreational gambling. I enjoy the bars and restaurants at NYNY more than any other property in the vicinity. In fact, I think that the quality of the bars on the casino floor, particularly The Bar at Times Square, is one of the primary reasons that I routinely stay at NYNY. In addition, the hotel has been well-maintained. Its rooms are clean, comfortable and, to my taste, stylish, having an art deco flair. NYNY is located in a prime spot on The Strip, at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana. The MGM Grand is across the street. Luxor and Mandalay Bay are also within walking distance and can be accessed by a monorail that connects with the Excalibur (immediately south of NYNY). Moving walkways also connect the Excalibur to Luxor.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

For blackjack players: MGM Grand is one of the last hotels to offer "Vegas Rules" blackjack. These tables are only located in the pit nearest the food court area, at the far end of the casino. Otherwise, dealer now hits soft 17 in virtually all games in Las Vegas. Some casinos, in fact, are also limiting blackjack payouts to 6:5 across the board, even on shoe games.

new york new york

New York-New York is a small hotel so I was not lost when walking around. However, in comparison with the MGM, I felt that the pool at New York was not that great. It was small, 3 feet deep. They did have 3 jacuzzi's which I thought was wonderful. They were never full. I liked the pools at MGM much better.
