Since first opening its doors in 1996, the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino has proven itself as one of the most sought-after hotels in Las Vegas. Combining the vibrancy of modern America with traditional, classic aspects of historic Europe, the Monte Carlo is a true blend of opulence and unassuming modesty -featuring marble flooring, flowing fountains and grand archways. The hotel's personal motto is, in fact, 'unpretentiously luxurious', which they absolutely achieve, giving guests the comforting impression that their every need is catered to. Dine on cuisine rustled up by award-winning French Chef Andre Rochat -one of the world's original celebrity chefs before the likes of Todd English and Wolfgang Puck- or play your hand at blackjack in the 102,000-square-foot casino room before catching a performance by the world-famous Blue Man Group, the Monte Carlo's resident entertainment act.

The good and bad

Upon checking into the Monte Carlo, we were very disappointed. The window of the "strip view" was so dirty that we could hardly see out and we were unable to take any pictures. There was food on the wall, peeling wallpaper in the bathroom, etc. After talking to the desk supervisor, our room was upgraded to a suite on a different floor. This room was very nice, maintained well, and clean. I was still a bit disappointed with the view of the casino roof (they never tell customers about details like that, and if one isn't familiar with Vegas hotels, he doesn't know until reservations have already been made. I appreciate the supervisor's attempt to make us happy; however the suite only had a king size bed. With three people in the room, I had to sleep on a roll away bed which was not very comfortable. The casino was pleasant and offered a variety of gaming options. The cafe was a great place to eat: good food and reasonable prices.

Good location, room, and the Pub

Everything about the Monte Carlo was very nice. However, there were some young people on our our floor who insisted on having a party out in the hall after midnight. They were really loud and using some pretty strong language. When we called Security, the guard came up and asked them to break it up. Finally, peace and quiet.

It was actually pretty cool...

Really enjoyed our hotel stay. The staff was very helpful. Reserved a king room only to get there and none were available. When we called down to the front desk they held one for us and allowed us to switch the next day. The rooms are very average. Somewhat dated decor but clean and comfortable nonetheless. The pool area was great although there were a ton of kids around. It was a holiday weekend too though. Overall I would definitely stay again.

It's ALL about money!!

Hotel location is good on the strip, and rooms are very clean. However, that's where it ends, as almost all facilities offered by the hotel are charged for, and then mostly overpriced. Restaurant prices, shop prices etc are all extortionate. At the pool there is a lazy river, and hotel charges $15 for a days rental of a tube, to ride on. The small kiosk next door, charges $10.81 to buy one outright. And don't think about ordering drinks at the pool, as domestic beer price starts at $7, and $9 for a basic well drink. Very hard to get a sunbed at the pool, as all seem to have towels on them, indicating they are taken. As our room overlooked the pool, I conted on day 3, that there were 97 sunbeds empty, but with towels on, and yet only about 15 people in the water. Internet accessible, at the cost of $15 per day, in your room. The days of hotels looking after customers are over at this property, all they want is your money. Do NOT use the stamp machine in the lobby. We wanted stamps for postcards to send to Canada. We put $2 in the machine and received a 98cent stamp. When we complained to the desk staff, they denied that it was their machine. They advised us to look for a post office?? They will sell you the postcards, but don't give a dam, about what you do with them. Beware, if you're staying here. Make sure you have lots of cash. Cash machines want $4.99 just to access your money. ORBITZ charged us for all expenses associated with the booking. However, the Hotel fastball you, with a daily $9+ charge, disguised as another tax of some sort. Maybe it's for the pleasure of being able to watch the construction of the City Centre resort next door. IT'S ALL ABOUT YOUR MONEY!! and they want it.

Monte Carlo Review

Hotel was ok to stay in. It is near the end of the strip, but they do have a tram to the Bellagio which is nice and helps prevent walking too much. They could use several air filters for the casino. Smoke smell is so bad and so prolonged over time that it burns your eyes just to walk through even when hardly anyone is in it.

Decent

It was a pretty decent hotel for the price (approx $40 a night) but the resort fee (whopping $40) sucked. The room was clean (although you have to be really clear with the person that checks you in if you want a non-smoking room) and the maids were fairly good. The last day though, the maids messed up or something because there was a gross blood-stained towel left in the bathroom.... Don't count on the concierge desk because they tend to be really busy.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

There are free trams (think really really nice subways, only not underground) that connect the Monte Carlo to the Aria and Bellagio. (There's another one that connects the Luxor/Excalibur and maybe others?) Definitely use it if you want to shorten your walking distance/see parts of the strip another way

great location...rooms need redo.

Was looking forward to staying here but was upset with the room. For an MGM owned property it seems like the rooms could be better. Old furniture, no flat screen TV's. Furniture looks worn. Beds were comfortable. Might have been overexpecting since it had a four star rating. Had to wait three hours for the promised room because they said they were at the mercy of housekeeping! My flight got in early and I wanted to get into my room at 11. The check in hostess I was dealing with said one half hour, gave me a conf.# etc. Killed some time in the casino (Which was nice and friendly staff) kept on going back to check in but the room was still not ready. Finally after almost three hours I switched to another floor. The promise of a 31st. floor room which sounded really nice never came to be. I think in general they're catering to a "budget" minded crowd now so it's really packed.Overall all the staff were very nice and professional.
