Vegas' MGM Grand Hotel & Casino celebrates the glory days of old Hollywood, when MGM was a dominant film studio. Glorious photographs of 1930s and 1940s movie stars adorn the walls of this Las Vegas institution as the casino echoes with the sounds of blackjack and slot machine winnings. With modern luxuries like three whirlpools and a slow-moving river for tubing, amphibious guests may never want to leave the water. The MGM Grand's Joel Robuchon is also the only three-star Michelin restaurant in Vegas, and the hotel is known for regularly hosting superstar-magician David Copperfield on the Hollywood Theater stage.
Key facts
  • More than 5,000 guestrooms
  • 24 restaurants, including Joel Robuchon, Hakkasan (Cantonese), Emeril's (Creole seafood) and Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill
  • 6 bars, including poolside venue Wet Republic Ultra Pool
  • Spa and sauna
  • Hair and beauty salon
  • Pool complex with 3 whirlpools and 4 swimming pools
  • Hollywood Theater and MGM Grand Garden Arena
  • In-house shopping
  • Casino
  • Wedding chapel
Neighborhood
Situated along the southern half of Las Vegas Boulevard, the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino overlooks the 'four corners' of the main Strip. If you're in a gaming mood, Vegas hotspots Bellagio, Luxor and Caesars Palace are just to the north, while the Paris hotel can whisk you away to France -complete with its own Arc de Triomphe- within a few minutes' walk. American classics Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Cafe are only steps away, but if you want to zip up and down the four-mile Strip, skip the traffic jams and hop on the monorail.
Hints and tips
Check the schedules ahead of time at MGM Grand if you're a pop fan -superstars like Lady Gaga, Cher, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake have all rocked the hotel's arena at some point. Fans of Vegas-based TV smash CSI: Crime Scene Investigation can use the show's cutting-edge technology at CSI: The Experience to solve a fictional crime.

New rooms Bad design.

We were anxious about getting to see the newly renovated MGM Grand. First we were put in a room that was at least 150 yards from the elevator. Upon entering the room the layout was like no other room we've ever seen, definitely a culture shock. A phone call to the front desk got us moved 70 yards closer to the elevator. The casino however, was easily traversed, well lit with plenty of different games. The staff was very nice and helpful. Overall I give a 3.5 out of 5.

Quick one-night stay

Would have been a much better stay if the sheets were cleaner and previous guest's hair was not visible in the bathroom. Tub also didn't drain and had to wait 45 minutes to get it fixed and cleaned. Having a good selection of restaurants and Hakkasan nightclub downstairs is great though. If I come back it is for the restaurants and clubs.

Disapointed

The room that we stayed in was not has fantastic as the entrance to the hotel. Would not book the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino again if I went back to Las Vegas. Also, was surprised to find out that they charge your credit or debit card $200.00 in advance for incidentals and they also charge $56.00 for a Resort Fee.

Sun lounging prohibited!

As the main purpose of our holiday was to relax in the sunshine, finding that the pool area "was closed for the season" was very annoying. Desk staff claimed that it says so on the website #it didn't at the time & still doesn't# and offered us the use of another pool which unfortunately was in the shade until noon #giving about 4 hours of sun# or the option of travelling to either the Mandalay Bay or Monte Carlo hotel pools which are both over 1/2 a mile away! Lovely room, but if you're going to Vegas for some winter sun, then stay in a different hotel!

The biggest problem was that they didn't clean the glasses in the room. I didn't use them but turned them rightside up with a little water in them. The marks and smears where in the same spot the 3 days I was there...GROSS!!!

Hotel is improved but customer service hasn't

Have stayed at MGM in Vegas before, two years and had a great experience. Since renovations the hotel and resort is nicer but customer service wasn't. Most staff was rude, didn't even greet us or use common courtesy such as "thank you." The front desk, buffet cashiers, and one waitress at the buffet (Donna) were great! However, the maid services yelling at one another up and down the hall at 8a was not a nice way to wake up. I suggest spending more time renovating staff attitudes rather than the outside of the hotel.

Mgm

The room was nice but didn't like the box set the mattress sat in , I hit my leg in the middle of the night. The walls are thin so we could hear our neighbors and they were loud. It was a noisey hotel overall not as private as I would have liked. Loved hakassan resturant the food was soooooooo good!!!

las vegas vacation

Room and bed were clean and comfortable, but bathroom was just 2 stalls. Not much privacy! No coffee maker, fridge, or microwave. These are provided in even cheap motels, so I expected more amenities. The pool complex was great. If I were to stay here again, I would ask for an upgraded room.

Good hotel, but nobody warned me about the pool!

I booked the MGM Grand as it was a fair price compared to others and offered the best pool based on the research I had done. However, the pool was under construction for the season and did not see any information regarding that on MGM's site or Oribtz. It was hugely disappointing as it was the single greatest reason we chose the hotel. Not to mention the restaurant that was near the pool was closed as well.
